Default Gulf Coast Seafood

Is it safe to eat? I've looked on the Internet but can't seem to find a specific answer to whether or not the seafood that's caught now is safe to eat. Even if "they" say it's safe to eat......how do we know for sure?

What are the seafood eaters here doing?

I love fish - but it just seems to me that the fish that survived the oil leak would have to be tainted by all the chemicals that were put into the water during the clean up attempt. I know it's been declared "safe" but the people making that blanket statement aren't an expert on the subject (IMHO).

I was talking to the man that works in the seafood department at Publix and he said that the fish they get is not from that particular area. I asked where it was from and he didn't know "exactly" but he did say it wasn't from the area that was affected by the oil leak. Okay......

Why not?

I have no problem eating fish that has been in oil, after all- that's how I prefer my chicken, coat it in oil, fry it up and lets chow down.

Look at the good points, you don't have to use the Wesson from the cabinet, just roll the breadcrumbs on and go to town.

Not totally sure, but the oil has affected only a small part of the Gulf. It has affected a lot of the Shrimp areas, it you want to avoid it try to get Atlantic shrimp from south Georgia. I know they have found trace of the oil in Blue Crabs, but it is lost when they molt.

Thanks, Bill! I'm going to Whole Foods later this afternoon - they have a really big seafood department so I plan on getting some farm grown fish there.

Pew!!!!!!! I smell a rat.........named FDA!

If the fishermen in Louisiana say it's safe I'll let them eat it for a while and then see what happens. For now, I'm going to be extra careful and diligent to make sure that any seafood I eat does not come from the Gulf.
