I don't know if I have asked this here or not. But if you guys brains are like mine, you might not remember either! We are going to Disney World next month!!!!!!!!! YAY!!!!! this has been our dream for a long time to take our grandchildren to WDW. So we are taking our girls, thier husbands and the grand kids and paying for it to! Yes, it's a one time trip. And no, I don't have room in my suitcase or car for any of you!
OK, back to my question. I need a good recipe for trail mix. We need a good snack in the car and something to sneak away in our bags at WDW as snacks so we aren't paying out the wazoo for snacks. We have the dining club which will pay for 2 snacks a day for each of us but since it's only the quick service dining card I'm sure the snacks won't be of much substance. My daughter, the mother of the grand kids is pretty strict about how much chocolate she lets her girls have and chocolate melts so M&Ms may be out. It can be added at times but not in the park. Did I mention we are going to Disney World with our whole family!!!!!!! Yeah, I'm getting excited. |

What a fun trip! Do you want sweet or salty?
My mom makes a trail mix with p'nuts, cashews, raisins, dried cherries, yogurt chips and chocolate chips. I love it although the chocolate and yogurt might not be great for the heat. Things like carrot and celery sticks might be a better option for more healthy and less thirsty!

my mom used to make a nut bar with seasame seeds, walnuts and dried cherries. she would smoosh it all together into a bar, and wrap it up. instant energy and YUM! She tucked some in everyones pockets on travel day.

I have no idea what Trail Mix is, but I'm guessing you want small snacks to pack for your trip.
Here's a health bar recipe that's easy to make and should travel well. INGREDIENTS 6oz (125g olive oil margarine 1/3 cup (75g) firmly packed brown sugar 2 tablespoons honey (or golden syrup if you'd like it less sweet) 1½ cups (135g) rolled oats ½ cup (75g) self-raising flour (cake flour) ½ cup (65g) dried cranberries, apricots, apples or other dried fruit ½ cup (70g) coarsely chopped, pitted dried dates ½ cup (80g) sultanas ¼ cup (50g) pumpkin seed kernels (pepitas) 2 tablespoons sesame seeds METHOD Preheat oven to 350F (180°C). Grease an 11 x 7inch (28cm x 18cm) (base measurement) slice pan and line the base and two long sides with one piece of baking paper. Stir margarine, sugar and honey (or syrup) in a medium saucepan, over medium heat until the sugar is dissolved. Stir in the remaining ingredients. Press the mixture into the pan and smooth the surface. Bake for about 35 minutes or until golden. When cooked, leave in the pan to cool. Cut into bars. BTW...... did you say you were heading to Disney World?

How does a combination of Small pretzels, gold fish, reeces peices, M&Ms, Dried cranberries, cheerios and golden grahams sound? I would get everything at Aldis, Dollar tree, etc for keeping the cost down. I would mix everything up except the reeces pieces and M&Ms and only use them when I know there is no risk of melting. The golden grahams would be a good sourse of carbs. But so would the cranberries

I'm hungry now. That sounds good.
I have Golden Grahams upstairs...wonder if I can get to the store to buy stuff to mix with it and make myself some trail mix.

ALL of my family has told me they don't want any trail mix!!!! So I guess if I make it I would just end up eating all of it and weighing to much when I get back and have my annual physical 3 days after I get back. I might make some and eat ti in front of them and tell them they can't have any!!!
