Thanks, Joelle. He's so much better this morning. I know you have more cats than I do.....and you know how you can just tell when they aren't acting or feeling quite right.

All systems are functioning well this morning and he ate a huge breakfast. :) Now....the only problem is Gracie. She gets a bee in her bonnet everytime he goes to the vet. :rolleyes: Apparently she can smell the aroma of the vet or other animals or what...I don't know...but she growls and hisses at him. This will last about 3-4 days or however long it takes the scent to fade. Maybe I should just spritz him with my perfume! J/K.

I'm glad your kitty is ok. That reminds me, I need to make appts for our two for annual check ups. Daisy is 1yo now and Rocky needs to be weighed. :rolleyes: She loves going and he gets scared so I won't take them together because then his fear might rub off on her. I think I'll take him first so he won't know what's coming by smelling Daisy when she returns. :cool:

I find wiping BOTH cats with your wet hands, makes them crazy, but then they will both stop and lick themselves, and each other, and they will both smell the same in no time. you dont have to soak them, just use wet hands to pet them both, and watch them go to work. it wont be long till they both smell the same. :hug:

Sooooo. Daisy "likes" the vet? Once she gets her butt- glands done, that may change drastically! Sheba's last visit, when we discovered her kidney functions changing... she had the rear end glands done when they took a blood sample (cats don't like this either) and she was one hissy kitty when she got home. She hissed at our feet, chairs and doorways, in addition to the other two cats. (she was full of "hiss" for everything and everyone!)
We thought for a while she had a "cognitive hiss disorder"...:rolleyes:

I didn't know cats had to have that procedure done. I thought it was only dogs! :eek: The vet didn't mention doing it for Tigger (thank goodness)......I'm sure he would feel very violated! :o

Typically you have to ask for it now. Our Vet charges EXTRA to do it! Sheba is so old...she has to have it done yearly.

My son's cat is not old but she is having problems with it.

When the cat gets touchy about the tail area, or extra grumpy or you see them having trouble sitting down, that is a clue.
Big cats...tubby types...can't reach back there easily and also are prone to this problem.

Our other two cats seem to be okay in that department. So I guess it varies.

if you look at the bum hole like a clock, at the 10 and 2 oclock positions there is a small pin sized gland that releases oils and scent when animals poop. Cat can also add some when they spray areas to mark the spot as their own. With each bowel movement, they express some, and it should keep it clean. licking their own backside can also help keep them functioning well. Occasionally cats will get a blockage if they have been lazy about cleaning (or cant reach it) and dont push well with BMs. This can cause them to swell like a pimple and it can itch, burn, and cause distress to the animal.You may also see them chewing on their bums. You will see doggies scooting, and cats too can drag across blankets. Like a pimple, with enough pressure it can POP! and then it leaves a smear of very smelly oily residue behind.

If you animals has this issue, adding fiber can help, or weight loss so they can clean it. I have seen animals that have had them removed from being blocked for long periods of time. The animals dont need them, as they dont do anything other than leave scent behind. When they work, you should never have to know about them. when they dont, trust me, those two tiny glands can rule your life.

That is the bum hole lesson for the day. :o

Not to derail this thread but . . . Daisy is a year already!:eek: Where does time go? It seems like you just brought her home.

Ok back to Tigger . . . I'm glad Tigger is doing better today.

I hope Gracie settles once Tigger "airs out." Wiping them down will work.
