Confused My suspicious mammogram details

Okay, had a "suspicious" mammogram so I had to go in for another detailed digital mammogram on 2 spots. Yes I said 2! The girl looked at the pictures and didn't really give me much of an idea what she was seeing. I guess they don't really know, so I was sent right over for an ultrasound. Well they looked over the "suspicious" spots and decided clearly that one was a cyst....however; the other looks possibly more solid in nature and needs to be biopsied.
Now I have never had a needle biopsy and am very scared. They don't knock you out yet stick a needle way inside you to aspirate some tissue. My report said:
At the 3 oclock area there is an elongated sonolucent structure with through transmission, compatible with a cystic abnormality measuring approx 9 mm.
The 6 oclock area there is a solid hetergoginious songraphic abnormality which is somewhat poorly marginated, measureing 1.1 cm in greatest dimension. Obtaining tissue for difinitive diagnosis is recommended performed with ultrasound-guilded localization and excisional biopsy or core biopsy under ultra sound guidance. How big is 1.1 cm?

Okay, now that I've told you the whole story....anyone ever had a biopsy of the breast? OHHHHH I am so dreading this....but I know it has to be done.

I had a biopsy many years ago on a suspicious lump. I was 23 at the time. They took the lump out. Because of the location it was a fairly simple procedure.

1 cm = 0.393+ inches. Does that help?

Anyhow, I will keep you in my prayers and hope that it turns out to be another cyst or something treatable.

I have 2 ... one lump was removed and the other a couple years later they did a needle biopsy. They didn't knock me completely out but gave me something that made me not feel the biopsy or remember it. BTW, mine was calcium deposits.Good luck..will pray its nothing serious.

Good luck to you Karilann. I am praying for all benign reports fro you.

I just had my third Thyroid biopsy for a large dominant nodule. It was benign. That have to check it for your benefit.

The first biopsy years ago I had lidocaine, the last two years I didn't have any and they suck and scrape at the throat with a needle to get the tissue and fluid for testing.

It didn't hurt. No worse than the injectables.
Good luck my dear.

i have been thru all that too. just know that the staff is very good at what they do. when i had mine they were great. professional and caring. i know you'll be in good hands.

i was scared too. but keep telling yourself to take only one thing at a time. don't try to look too far ahead or you'll only be more nervous.

afterwards ask them when the results will be available. then either call the center and/or your dr to give you a report. it's your body and you have a right to the information.

good luck. i'll be sending my prayers. please let us know how you are.

please tell them how nervous you are, and you can have anxiety meds, just like the MRI stuff. There is no need to put you at such risk by knocking you out, but they can ease your fears. They are really good at numbing the area, and have dramatically improved their ways since I had it done a loooong time ago. You are in good hands. Take a deep breath, and let the drugs work.
