Default Planning to fly at Christmas?

Maybe this is a no-brainer. (You might all know this, but, I rarely fly, and, even less often at Christmas.)

I booked a flight this evening for my son to come home at Christmas. I'd thought about waiting until 2 weeks before, and bidding on priceline.com, because it's so much cheaper, but, I read an article yesterday about more travelers and fewer seats available this year, and about prices expected to go up 20% soon. I got a flight, last October for my grandma's funeral, just 2 days ahead of time, on priceline.com, for a real great price (40-60% off regular price? -- can't remember, exactly -- but WAY less than you'd normally pay when you book so late), so I'd originally thought that might be the way to go again, until I read the article.

So, I got online yesterday and looked at prices. When I looked today, they were all up by almost $20 in just one day!

So, I booked before they got even higher. But, as I was attempting to book a morning flight on 12/24, they all filled up. So, I either had to take one that came in late evening on the 24th, or one that left EARLY morning on the 23rd (5:30 am). I took the one on the 23rd, and the site said I got one of the last 3 flights.

So, if you want to fly at Christmas, it's time to book!

Thanks for the heads-up, Faith. I'm not a "flyer", but my daughter will be coming home to Pennsylvania from Arizona around that time. I'll certainly pass the word on to her.......Judy

I booked my flights at the beginning of December. Really expensive but I did not want to take a chance. Now I shall pray for decent weather!
