I think there wouldn't be a tee-hee factor if the adults took a more 'hey, it's just the fabulous human body' approach to body parts and nakedness. I think the tee-hee factor is more a reflection of the elders up-tight-ness than it is the kids. That said, I wish modesty would come back into style. Maybe it will once the kids realize they can't SHOCK THE GROWN UPS by showing a lot of flesh. I definitely hear what you're saying though, Kitty. Last edited by Becca44; 10-19-2010 at 10:57 AM. |

I don't think there would be a lot of teehee if adults nipped it in the bud immediately upon learning of such behavior too. I am a firm believer in discipline of our children. Unfortunately too many are afraid to do so for fear of prosecution.
Not Jim and I. We always told our kids if they want to call the cops because we forced them to clean their room, say yes sir, no sir, do chores in order to get money for movies, shoes, etc. then go at it. We told them the cops will be sure to do one of two things. Laugh at them and carry on, or worse, take them away and put them in a foster home until we are cleared. We also told them they best be hoping their new mommy and daddy are nice and don't beat them or worse. I think they challenged us once. I packed their bags and handed them the phone. They decided it wasn't so bad at our house.

I don't have a problem with it, I even think it's cute. Earl and I spoke about this yesterday and my first reaction was to point out how much attention the campaign has generated right here at NT. That's what it's for, it's meant to PROVOKE ATTENTION.
While some will find it undignified or grotesque, who here hasn't referred to his/her gluteous maximus, stomach or an-us in some other less-than-clinical way? How is it different than referring to teeth as "chops" or hands as "paws" or mouth as "trap"? Our society is in the very big business of reducing everything to its least appropriate value, this is really no different. I say, "lighten up!" you only make this scene once so grab all the innocent kicks you can. ETA: It's also important to recognize that this bracelet is just one tiny angle in a massive campaign involving many, many nationally branded sponsors. If they could not stomach this one part of the much larger picture, they would not have signed on. The nation speaks. I rest my case.

I think they are inappropriate. If the kids were wearing them for the right reason, it might be ok, but most of them are wearing them for the funny saying. If you ask many of the kids, they probably don't know anything about breast cancer. I am a teacher and I can see how they can become a major distraction.

I asked my son, who is now 27, and he thought about it for a minute and said that "very little chance that boys are wearing this for the right reason" He saw how hard our whole family struggled with breast cancer, and understands teenage boys. He said he would vote in front of a grown adult that they are inappropriate, because he feels they are only being used for the boobie effect, but the boy in him wants one because...well..its BOOBIES! All boys love boobies! lol.
I am no longer on the fence. I would like to change my vote to inappropriate, and should not be allowed. there is a time and place, and school isnt it.

LOL Sandy, that's why I used that word...
I don't know why the word "boobies" always rubbed me wrong..I can remember when I was around 12 and my sister would come up to me and yell "boobies!!" and I would turn all shades of red...which would get her so excited (she was a mature 20 then...not). Oh well, the subject was teens wearing the bracelets with the term on them, right? I wish they would have to wear bracelets to bring awareness to testicular cancer that was as "cool" as the "boobies" bracelet seems...just can't think of a cute phrase for saving testicles how about it? who will be the winner who comes up with one??
