As a parent of a pre-teen I am on the fence. While my DD would understand the significance behind these bracelets a lot of the immature kids (mostly boys) she goes to school with will not. That's when it become inappropriate. So the bracelet itself is just fine but the children's reactions to it is where it may be in appropriate. And since schools no longer deal with children as individuals, all children are disciplined and the item is banned.

Perfect way to explain it, B2Y. That is exactly what I was thinking.......why does everything have to have a sexual tilt to it? I know they're possibly trying to relate to the younger generation but I feel like they could have been more respectful about it.

Yeah, Kelly, I'm getting a little sick at the way the younger generation is taking the nice world we made for them, and turning it upside down, so we can't enjp it anymore. GRRRRRR!!

I always go back to this but, we see such over the top violence and gore on television and no one gets hung up on it. But mention anything having to do with sex?? ...or in this case, that part of female anatomy that suggests sex, fertility and motherhood?? (and ahem, the reason we're ALL HERE?) people get squeamish. Makes no sense to me!!
but does make me want to buy an I love boobies bracelet. I think it's fine. Respectfully. Becca44 |

I think this generation, apparently mine too, isn't as shocked as prior generations when talking about sex or body parts. I raised my children to speak freely about sex, oral and penetration, about birth control, drugs, masturbation, etc. It wasn't taboo like it was when I was raised up. It shocked the wee-wee out of my MIL but she didn't pry too deep about it. Both my kids talk freely and openly about anything. I like that.
Also, many women up at their college have a breast cancer organization to raise money. Their tshirts have the word tatas on them. I think it says "save the tata's" and they make tons of money for breast cancer research and for those who cannot afford mammograms.

Sex doesn't make me squeamish at all. Neither does the mention of the female anatomy. Or the male anatomy. It's the disrespect and, as B2Y's friend put it so well, the "tee hee" factor that bothers me. But, I guess that's what is needed to get through to some of the high school kids out there. I can almost understand elementary school aged kids......but high school?? Really??

I think we can all respect the fact that we respect each others opinions. Just because it doesn't bother everyone or fit within our moral values, doesn't mean it's a bad thing or immature. Honestly, I have never laughed or giggled at something that raised money for a good cause, nor have I seen any college kids giggle or laugh raising money for a good cause.
Can't we just respect the fact that this organization is trying to raise awareness and money for a good thing? Nowadays, I feel like every time someone tries to do good there is always that someone who thinks its bad because it doesn't fit with their moral character. If you guys think this is bad, go check out our potential new Governor who thinks mass euthanizing animals in gas chambers is necessary. Grrrrr.

Hey Earl, since you've stirred the pot, and no, not the good pot, we'll all be at your house around 11am for your mammo. OK?

Hmmm...haven't had the nads to vote yet
On one hand, I get sick of men talking about my mammary glands like they're pieces of adornment... on the other hand, I don't see problems with erotica-just sex for the shock factor. Europe has it right; sexuality is a part of life, and should be celebrated. But in our nation, we are puritanical until it comes time to advertise...or produce a TV show or movie. Then the organs built for sustaining life in an infant get flashed, groped, etc for the excitement of it... Dr. Laura Berman, a noted women's sex doc, was discussing on a show how ads were pulled off the air that deal with a new product to increase WOMEN's libido and decrease sexual dysfunction...but there are ads aplenty for men's, aren't there Anyway, mine are called breasts, thank you...boobies are dummies in my dictionary... But I guess I'm on the fence...
