Default My mechanic

My mechanic is about a half mile up the hill. I used to drop my car off in the morning, take the pleasant walk down the hill to work, then walk back up after work and pick up the car. Don't walk so good these days.

Now I usually bring it up at 7:30 and catch a ride home with the town clerk, and back to the garage at 3 when she goes home. If she isn't working, my mechanic says "I'll just bring you home and then bring you the car when it's done. Or I can come get it if you'd rather." Sweet.

I hear so many horror stories, especially from people who DON'T live in small towns. I bring my car up for its snowtires or whatever and just say "If you see anything it needs, just fix it." He's not going to miss anything or sell me something I don't need. How awesome is that? I love my mechanic.

YEAH, you're NOT going to make any friends with posts like this. RUDE, meanwhile I can't find a good, HONEST mechanic to work on Laura's car. I long for the days we lived in a small town.

Thanks for this.....
yeah, I am envious. I'm glad you have such a great situation. Where do you live again? I want to check Realtor.com to find my next home. enough of this big city bunk.

I do live in a small town, and tons of crooks here. didnt want to pass my car with the funky headlight ....unless...I bought new tires! or they could over look it if I would agree to a radiator flush, and serpintine belt...or ...you get the idea. instead of trying to help me fix the silly headlight, they tried to help me find ways to cheat the system, if I would dump money into their garage.

I have not found a mechanic that I can trust, so I traded it in on a gently used car and now I take it to the Ford dealer, cause I have a warrenty on the silly thing. If I had a decent mechanic I would have put band aids on that car till it fell apart.

I don't live in a small town and while I don't trust any mechanic completely my current mechanic is great. I will never leave that garage unless of course he gives me reason to. His garage is in the village so I'm hoping that since it's a family business that's been there since the town as grown, he has some sense of work ethics.

I'm so envious! It used to be like that here....but no more. My DDH had an uncle who owned the "fillin station" (gas station for those who don't speak Southern!) in the little town we lived in. He could fix anything - whether it was a car or not - and we could trust him.

You're so fortunate to still have that where you are. I wanna come live in B2Y's town!

I have one of those in my little town, too. When my DH died, our mechanic came to the house to start the car, take it to their station, service it and return it, with another driver to take him back.

They did that every year, for 3 yrs, free of charge, untill I insisted that they take some money, for their services.
