Default Adventures in M|S

This happened earlier today:

I guess it's kind of funny...NOW. Inspired by my Sister-in-Law's blog of being very carpe diem,I left my computer to go outside into the beautiful bright sun-shine, perfect temperature day. I rode my heavy power chair down what I affectionately call The Ramp of Death. It is so not ADA compliant. The sun was shining, the sky was blue and when I started sliding on the wet wooden surface I thought "oh $#!t" There is no rail, I slid off the end which is only about 6-7 inches high, my 6-wheel, center drive chair has 2 little back wheels on ramp, 2 little front wheels on grass and cement side walk, the larger center drive wheels in mid-air dangling off ramp, me in a 45 degree angle. Being from Jersey, I used my driving in snow skills to get me down onto sidewalk. Whew. I hadn't tipped over. I sat and enjoyed the sunshine and waited for the ramp to dry. I realized I wanted someone to know before I tried to go up again, DH was not available, so called lady at his office to say "If I don't call you again in 2 minutes call the ambulance. I called her at the top to say I made it. Now I need lunch and a nap.

We all have adventures - broken toes, spiders, laying on bathroom floors. Do you have one to tell?

The good news is 2 people I dialed on my cell phone directory in error. (sun was super bright - couldn't see screen )called me back in support.

Well, that was quite a story!!''

When are the carpenters getting there to get your ramp up to code?? Maybe Sally can spare some hunks for a couple of days.

Kicker, you've had the Ramp of Death for quite a while now. When will that be fixed?
Glad you got to enjoy at least part of the day in the sun. Always good to have someone to call, just in case (even better when you don't need 'em). Something to be said for carpe diem!

Oh no, Kicker. I'm glad you survived without a scratch, except on your psychy. I live in fear of this happening to me.

After having to call 911, when I couldn't get up, I don't take chances anymore. That is against everything I think and know.....not to take chances.

I have a ramp, outdoor scooter and no guts...so, I stay in my comfort safe zone like a namby pamby does.

We have the Laundry Room of Death. My mom has fallen down in it twice. Once over some laundry (just bruised her knee) but the second time was when the cleaning lady left the rug in there folded up in the middle of the room. My mom tripped over a box of laundry detergent, bounced off the wall and then tripped over the folded up rug...face planted herself on the floor.

Ended up breaking her shoulder in three places. She's not allowed to go in the laundry room when the cleaning lady is here now. I dont have the mental will to deal with another broken bone on her. I'm pretty sure the stress of her injury is what caused my flare earlier this spring.

It is time to fix the ramp of death! Love the carpe diem, though. It is easier to seize the day if one's exit from the home is safe!

I saw an episode of Holmes On Homes where he fixed a wheelchair ramp. He did a great job and made the ramp pretty and functional. It was one of the earlier episodes of his show...back when it only lasted a half hour. (I wish I could get Mike Holmes to come build me something...like a house.)

Make sure you find a good contractor to build the new ramp!

Did I tell you about the time DH and I were fighting on the phone, I refused to answer it again, went to take a shower. DH panicked at my non-answering, thought I fell, and called the fire department(I'm not sure he knew we were fighting). They got in by climbing a fence and braving the dog and through the unlocked porch door. My house was full of men when I walked out of the shower to lie on my bed, exhausted by the heat of the shower. Like firemen sometimes are, some were really cute.I made the newbie guy snort and laugh. DH promised never to do that again.

The x-ray guy remembered me from 2 years ago when I broke my shoulder. Nothing like a good memory!

When he helped me onto the bed to position me for a picture of my toes, he arranged my legs in a certain position. As he turned away to adjust something, my right leg involuntarily moved to close my legs.

When he turned around, he adjusted the leg again only to have the right leg spring back right before his eyes. He looked at me and I looked at him and laughed. He realized that the leg was not going to cooperate.

Then as he helped me put the paper booties on my feet, I remarked "Looking at my feet will cure any man of a foot fettish." Nails are discolored, toes bent due to spasticity. Swollen blueish spots, veins popping. Yep. I need to get a job where strange fettishes need to be psychologically overcome.
