Thrillers.....suspense......the older movies of the 60's and even before then. I like those. But not the gory blood and guts movies they make today.
My oldest son who is in law enforcement says "just spend a day with a police officer and you'll see enough blood and gore to last you a lifetime". I tend to feel like these new movies give those people who have a tendency towards violence too many ideas.

For me the original Halloween movie was the best of the best of Horror movies. A little Blood but mostly scarrrrry suspense. Just seeing that masked face in the shadows, left me shivvering and numb. Another one was the Original Polterguise....eeeeeek!! And the originals of Frankenstien and Dracula....and JAWS!!!

The only original movie that really, truly scared me was The Exorcist. The sound effects were chilling. And that scene of the little girl crawling down the hall all inverted on her hands and legs....backwards.....oh, that creeped me out! I still get scared even when I hear the theme music.
There was something on television a couple of weeks ago that I started watching and should have stopped....but no, I just HAD to watch it....and then I was scared. DS was out so I had every light in the house on. When he got home he said the house looked like an airport...he could see it from the end of the road!

I think the last "scary movie" I saw was "The Birds". I saw it with my friend Millie, and we went to her house afterward.
We were sitting on the couch all spooked and chattering, when her mother's parakeet came swooping into the room. We both screamed, which scared each other, so we screamed again (louder), which scared her mother, who came running in to see what was wrong. By that time the parakeet was clinging to the curtain with his little heart beating a million miles a minute...holy moley.

I love a good horror flick ~ but not the slasher movies. Those are just gross (besides, watch any of the regular crime shows on TV & you'll get all the gore you want).
The scariest movie I ever saw in the theatre was the first Alien movie. You never saw the alien, or exactly what it did, but the suspense of the whole thing was done so well it scared everyone in the place.

If you watched the episode of CSI (vegas version) from about a week ago (episode where they were finding bodies in a hoarders house) that was probably the episode where they finally went too far in the disgusting category.
They finally grossed me out to the point where I nearly had to vomit. Just for the grossness of the special effects they made up for that episode. and then they had to throw in a few rats for some extra icky. I. Hate. Rats. (or anything resembling mice and rats) I have a huge phobia. I think the only thing worse for me to watch, would be The Exorcist. (I cannot watch that at all. Cant even think about it. I need to go look at pictures of puppies and kittens to get images from that movie out of my head)

My favorite horror movie/book has to be "The Shining" A psychological thriller that could happen. I am not into blood/gore/violence as entertainment. But a psych thriller gets my adrenaline pumping
