*healthcare reform* is a freakin' joke.
This is disgusting. I'm out of here until our government gets realistic. What a nightmare... Tom Last edited by Chemar; 10-24-2010 at 12:54 PM. Reason: NT political guidelines |

Tom likes to drop little bombs like this, then disappear for awhile.. Let's keep this thread on top until he returns to the scene of his crime.

I did hear that medicare is now removing the deductible for things like screenings, colonoscopy and the like, BUT they are increasing the price of such proceedures, which means your co pay will rise. either way, we pay!
I love the commercials with andry griffen singing the praises of medicare. he is just so excited! The whole ball of wax confuzzles me. One article explains it, and the other article confuses it all over again! I dont know who to trust, and I dont know where to get accurate, simple explainations that are trustworthy because they change their minds every ten minutes. Before they can print what they decided on, they changed their minds!

It does look like the 'donut hole' is going to be reduced. If you enter the donut hole and your drug company has signed up for it, you will only pay 50% instead of 100% percent for your medication. Both what you spend and what the drug company spends do count toward out of pocket expense for you. There probably won't be any information available from the drug companies until Dec as to whether they are going to participate. And, in only 10 years the donut hole will be completely eliminated.

I haven't had a chance to review the healthcare reform in detail but I got a nice little letter from my HSA yesterday. Effective 1/1/2011, I can no longer use my HSA card to buy OTC medicines such as ibuprofen, cough syrup, etc. without a doctor's prescription. Um, WTH, isn't that the purpose of being able to buy stuff OTC - not having to go to the doctor and get a prescription? The reason I started using my HSA card for these purchases is every time I used it for a co-pay or doctor bill I got a nastygram saying they needed more substantiation to pay the claim and if I didn't submit it within 14 days they'd freeze my HSA account.
I should clarify that the letter specifically states "The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act passed by congress and signed into law by President Obama made significant changes to the way you are able to utilize your Health Reimbursement Account (HRA). Effective 1/1/2011, you may no longer use pre-tax HRA money to purchase over the counter (OTC) drugs. From that point forward, we may only reimburse you for OTC drug purchases if your submission for reimbursement includes a prescription from a doctor."
