I-20 is closed in both directions. I-75 North is a mess with jackknifed tractor trailers all over the place. The local news on all stations has been on all day long. Enough! We know it snowed! How much can you talk about 5 inches of snow?? The snow here in Gwinnett County looks very much the same as the snow in Union County. I don't need to see it for 12 straight hours. I know the concern now is black ice but most folks have enough sense not to try to get out in it for no reason. And the ones who do try just to go to Waffle House will probably get stuck and have to wait several hours for help. Lesson learned. Now, since there really hasn't been much to report on but people making snowmen and sledding down hills they're talking about "possible" power outages and instilling fear in everyone. Not much we can do but be as prepared as possible. |
Since when do people have the sense to stay off the roads when the weather is bad?

They are actually calling for snow here tomorrow. We are not used to the snow and ice around here. Wind storms around here are another thing. We try to keep our pantry fully stocked and when we hear a storm is coming we fill all the gas tanks on our vehicles and all the extra tanks. We lose power in those kind of storms almost yearly so we have a generator hooked up to switch the house over to back up power. That and we have a wood stove for heat, so when it does go out we cook on that. Unfortunately though, usually when the power goes out here it's not really that cold, so we end up having to open all the windows so that we don't completely overheat. I hope your power doesn't go out and you are able to just stay in and ride this one out! |
The news was full of traffic accidents and people stranded on the highway. It's got to be aggravating to the public safety employees who have to go rescue these folks. They not only risk their own safety but that of the ones having to go save their silly be-hinds!

Part of the problem is that people either freak out over a weather forecast or (and most likely) don't listen to it at ALL!
Over the million years I worked at the Post Office, I can't guess how many times someone would come in after all of the tv and radio stations had been predicting an ice storm or horrific snowfall for two days straight, and say "Oh...is it supposed to be bad?" after I seemed surprise he/she was headed for Burlington to go shopping. OR, bad weather will be forecast and people say, "Oh poo, they never get it right anyway." |
There's got to be a happy medium for the news....but they'll never find it! It's ALL or nothing with them.
Today is the 2nd day that all the local news networks have taken off regular programming and had continuous talk about snow and ice all day long! How many people do we need to see slipping down a hill? Good grief! They act like this is the first time it's ever snowed in Georgia! I'm watching QVC!!! ;) |
I want my quiet house back! :o

Well, the weatherman got it right, here in Kettering/Dayton, Ohio. About 5 inches of beautiful new snow. Not icy, so not bad driving. Some schools closed but most were just on an hour delay.
This is the kinda snowfall everybody loves. Softly clinging to the tree branches and railings and such. The Groommobile came and groomed my pup today and said it's not bad driving. Life goes on, here in beautiful Ohio.:p |

hello to all you snowed in dears, I feel for all of you with this really bad winter going on. I am in fl.(poor me) and it is going down to the 30's here again. We have been getting all the cold and rain on that southern edge on all those storms. Stay warm and try not to have to go out in it. I am from Missouri, and I do not miss the snow, except for it is beautiful. ginnie:hug:
