Default Friendship Blanket Club...

When I am stressed, I tend to crochet to escape my real world. I have a big box of yarn in different colors and not enough of any one color to make anything big. So I have begun making granny squares, and flower squares. Decided to make a blanket out of them.

Then I had an idea. For those of you who knit or crochet... what if we started a little club and we each made a square and sent it to one another to create friendship blankets? I think it would be cool to have a blanket that my long distance friends had a hand in making.

If anyone is interested in joining me, please let me know.

Thanks.

It would take a true friend to handle my crocheting. I haven't done it is years. And I mean years.

There is something called a Prayer Shawl. It's pretty cool. We got some when my dad was sick. I think you say prayers while you crochet and/or knit the shawl.

If you all decide to do it, definitely post some pics of the squares. That would be really cool and neat to see.

I'm a crocheter and a knitter, but I tend not to join swaps (I have problems with procrastinating on things that have a deadline)

I crochet shawls and afghans for fun all the time tho. There are "official" patterns for the Prayer shawls (by the people who thought it up and publish the books) but on a lot of the crochet/knitting/yarn themed websites that I go to, people create their own prayer shawls out of just about any shawl pattern you can find. I've never made a prayer shawl, mostly because I'm atheist, but I have taken one shawl to be blessed by a priest for someone I was giving it to, because I knew the person would appreciate it.

If you want links to free crochet patterns for shawls or afghans, ask me. I know of a ton of crochet sites that have some pretty cool stuff. I also know a few people who have YouTube video demonstrations on how to do certain types of crochet/knit stitches.

COOL!!! What a great idea. Plus, it is something that you and DD are doing together. I think that is awesome. Were the pandas her idea? I saw them and thought of that based on the many wonderful stories you have shared about her and her love of animals.

The Art of Crochet video that you posted on the blog is a good one. I know Teresa (well, have talked to her in a crochet forum several times) and she makes great videos. I thought about trying to make my own "how to" crochet videos, but decided it's too much work for me.

I love crocheting. I've been playing with string and crochet hooks since I was about 5 or 6yrs old. I'm about to start a scrap yarn afghan if I can find enough colors for it in my stash.

She picked the pandas. She is having fun with it too. I had to add games for her.
I can't do the videos. I don't have the patience. But teresa does great tutorials and she doesn't mind if you share her videos.

I have some pics to post on there later of some of the stuff I have made.
