Doydie, you will be in my prayers. I hope you find time to rest and just be at peace soon.

Doydie I am so sorry. But, she is at peace now with the Lord.
Take care of yourself. I know there is a lot to do now, but try really hard to rest in between. We don't want to hear that our Doydie is sick. Prayers to you and the family Jappy |

My heart goes out to you Doydie. I cannot imagine how incredibly difficult these past few weeks have been.
I pray for you to have the strength to get thru this next little bit that needs doing and find time to breathe and relax once again.

My thoughts are with you. I am so sorry for your loss, but it is good that she is at peace. Just take the rest one step at a time and get as much help as you can.

I sit here and read these wondrful notes of love and encouragemnet. We have had a very long day of going through Mom's apartment. I tried to sleep late this morning but couldn't. My Mom was such an immacualte housekeeper and it's now a mess. That has upset us all that her lovely apartment is in shambles and we leave it that way as we go to bed. It uspets us when we see the many things that was so important to Mom and Dad but is not to us, or that we didn't like as children like the irritating wind up alarm clock used only on vacations. We don't wnat them but we just can't throw them away. As a family we will get through this.

Dearest Doydie,
This may be strange to hear and comprehend right now, but the "cleaning out" of Mom's apartment is part of the mourning process. It allows you and your family to recall the good times/things and those that weren't so thrilling, like the wind up alarm clock. The process is so hard in many ways because we feel like we are violating their privacy. At the same time the apartment has to be cleaned out and up. Yes, you all will find many things you have no desire in keeping. That's where Goodwill, Salvation Army, or even a local church with an outreach ministry are a big help. This is a good time for the family to come together and allow those who want things that have been important to them to have them. Allow no jealousy throughout this process because in the end, it is only "stuff." I had a difficult time donating my Dad's Army uniforms. All meticulously kept in the closet with all of his medals and insignias placed on them per regulations. You too will run into this type of challenge. You may have all reached this point, or not, where you look at each other and exclaim, "Where did she get all of this stuff and why was she keeping it?" Many secrets you will never know, as it should be. Sometimes you all will just sit in the middle of the floor and look at something and cry. So be it. Clean out and clean up, go through the mourning process of moving on without holding onto the "stuff." It will be a cathartic experience for everyone. You all are in my thoughts, and now my own memories of this experience. You are not alone. Peace be with you all during this trying time.

once you have the treasures you seek, and memory lane starts to fade into the background noise, please call someone like the Salvation ARmy or Good Will who will come get the things you dont want. They will show up with a truck and take it away. There are estate sales folks that will hold an estate sale if the stuff is valueable and take a percentage of the profit. Either way will prevent you from having to lug stuff out to the lawn and set up sales tables.
Rest if you can.

Craig said it best. Sometimes it is best to step back and realize it is just material stuff. Some of it may have significant meaning and some of it may not. It all belonged to someone you loved dearly and parting with it is going to be difficult.
I am sorry for your loss, from your posts I can see your mom was deeply loved and you are a wonderful daughter. I have a great respect for the ability and dignity that you have shown during this very difficult time in your life. Know your friends are here for you and we are thinking of you.
