hmmm, i don't know about your chances...perhaps with a dr note?

i'm always in pain and would wake up in pain as well. i bought a full size temperpedic for a lot of $$$. but, it's been a Godsend for me. my pain has decreased quite a bit and i sleep better. not great, but better.

I asked my DH if he wants to go back to sharing a room, and he said "yeah, but only for a few conjugal visits, and then I want to go back to my man cave. What a sweetie! He has his own bathroom, and he can make all the mess he wants. who cares where the seat is, or if the towel is on the floor or nose hairs in the sink. its his space, and its girl free. no powders, or lotions or girlie razors. He is in bliss.

Well I checked with my insurance and she said no The section on the DME specifically said no mattress. So i guess I will go after the taking off of taxes. We have used seperate bedrooms for several years. My husband snores terrible and my sleep pattern puts me to bed around 1 AM. When he was working he frequently had a 5 AM shift!!!! We are the only 2 poeple in this 4 bedroom house now so I had a choice. My bedroom is small, I presently am sleeping on a super single water bed that has a regular mattress in the frame. Even with the padded sides it really hurts my leg to sit on the side of the bed. So it has to be a full size and not a queen. So far my favorite is one that costs $1100!!!!!

Find the mattress that you love. Write down the model number and make of the mattress and then come home and search online places for it. Many will net you 1/2 off and they deliver to your door. So, will you be looking for a new bed as well? Is a hospital bed covered under your insurance? perhaps an adjustable set up. I would love one of those.

In the old house we had 4 bed rooms, but in the end only used two. I refused to move out of the master, as most men dont care. I moved him out.

I appreciate your situation doydie and have had to deal with this myself. We too learned insurance will not pay for a special mattress under the DME requirements.

The best mattresses we've found ironically was a queen Serta from Sam's Club, now in our guestroom and everyone who visits loves it. We've learned the hard way (twice) to stay away from any Sealy is terribly constructed and neither one lasted over 2 years before caving in.

We now have a king size Simmons which has been excellent for many reasons and we do have a Tempurpedic type topper on it, as we have the others. BTW, we bought this last mattress at Mattress Warehouse and were very impressed with every aspect of the transaction. I would personally recommend staying away from large furniture, "everything's on sale 80% of every weekend," type stores and stay away from Mattress Discounters at all cost.

We considered buying online and the reviews tend to be very good but for something this important, we wanted to try it before buying it. This is just our personal experience. We did have my PCP write a Rx for it and sign a medical necessity form so we were able to be totally reimbursed by my wife's Medical Expense Reimbursement account at work AND deduct it off our taxes.

Best of luck and take your time finding exactly what you want in every aspect. Remember, the more educated you are the better deal you will receive. There is a tremendous mark up in mattresses and don't be shy about negotiating.

I have an appointment for Thursday of nest week to see my doctor about my leg. It hurts more this year than ever and I am going to have a long (3 hours) car ride. Now 3 hours usually wouldn't be long at all but the van is filled with things like couch,m deacons bench, etc so my seat can't recline and I snooze. So I am sitting straight up the whole time!!!!!! I have had an MRI of the hip but never of the thigh. So I don't know what he will oder. Also my neuro told me when I felt I was ready to get my brain MRI after Mom's illness to let her know. So I will get that done. I have thought about doing that at the same time but I don't know what that will do to my leg. Plus my 'plus size' doesn't do to well in that tube!

Know what's funny? The snoring/ tossing/turning/ leg twitches/ knees coming stright for my broken back/ arms trying to touch me coming from the other side of the bed drive me insane.

Yet, for the life of me I cannot sleep when he is not there. It makes no sense. Seperate bathrooms would be a blessing. There are days I wish I had my own bedroom. Then there are days when I know I wake him up at least once an hour from my own tossing and turning and I feel bad.

I don't care how much it costs. would give my left arm if I could sleep for 8 hours straight without being drugged and without pain. Hey, a girl can dream right?
I have Spinal Stenosis, Scoliosis, Osteoarthritis, Fibro & TMJ. All docs & my pt who have looked at my MRIs have said I'm not a candidate for surgery. My body has found a balance, painful, though it is the docs say, that if they operate, would be upset & create MORE problems. Those problems would create the need for annual or bi-annual surgeries for the rest of my life. I prefer to skip that. Instead, I'm making allowances in other ways, I drive my car to my neighbors 3 doors down for cookouts. I sit down when we get past the 2nd hymn in church, etc. I would love to be pain free. Some days are better than others.

I think the mattress and insurance would be a company by company thing. Many years ago, my cousin's insurance paid for a hot tub for him due to him scoliosis, complete with installation. It was great. When they moved it was a major selling point for their house.

I have to laugh at your sleeping arrangement discussions. King-size beds? Not enough room? My parents were married in 1955. My Mom was 5'8" and my Dad was almost 6'5. For the 18 years they were married, prior to his death, they slept in a double bed with at least one or two dogs or a dog and a cat in bed with them. Snoring? They BOTH did.. so you see why I had the giggles reading your posts about that... ?? : Hope you all feel much better tomorrow!

Blessings,

Lucy
