Talking Woo Hooooo! Vacation!

Just pulled the trigger on a dive trip for next month. Now I just have to figure out how I am going to get any work done for the next month. I am so hyped up and excited, I am ready to fly out tomorrow!

Are you diving someplace you've been before?

Yeah, we are going back to Little Cayman again. We were there in 2005 and last August. We keep trying to decide if we want to go somewhere new, and can't convince ourselves it is worth missing a chance to go to Little Cayman to try someplace new. It is just the perfect combination of very quiet and peaceful resort, very easy world class diving, outstanding food, and a dive staff that practices "valet diving". It just feels so effortless to enjoy yourself there that I can't stand the idea of passing it up to try someplace unknown.

I still need to post some pics from last time. We changed computers since then and I just now got Photoshop on the new computer. Once I get some time...(yes I know, quit laughing at me)...I will post some of the ones from last time.

Well we will be flying in through Grand Cayman...then taking the little propeller driven puddle jumper over to Little Cayman. At least now the airstrip in Little Cayman is paved...the first time we flew into there on our way to Cayman Brac in 1995, the air strip was a big grass field, and the "airport terminal" was a padlocked shed about the size of an oversized outhouse (No really, I am not joking). As the pilot was banking the plane to line up for the landing that first time, I looked at my wife and we were both thinking "THAT is where he plans to land?"

I posted several underwater photos from last year's trip in an album at the link below. I will add some of the topside photos if I can find where I stashed them when I downloaded the camera.

Is there good kayaking there too? I don't dive, I stay on the surface.

btw, what kind of camera did you use for the underwater pics?

The kayaking is probably ok there. The south side where the resort is has a reef that blocks the waves from the lagoon, but there isn't alot to see other than beautiful blue water and lots of fish. They do get rays and nurse sharks in the inner lagoon area, so those are neat to watch. It is pretty much a diver's and bonefisherman's paradise, but there is not much else to do other than relax, get a massage at the spa, and read a book in a shady hammock. Which makes it about perfect to me...

We use an Olympus C-5050 in an Ikelite housing with a Ikelite DS-125 external strobe. It is only a 5 megapixel camera, but I shoot in RAW format, and can overcome the worst of my mistakes in photoshop. Exposure is very hard to do in automatic mode underwater, as the camera takes the blue for darkness and tries to over or underexpose every shot. So you have to shoot in manual mode alot and it can be tricky to get it all right. Photoshop can adjust the exposure up or down by about 2 f-stops if you shoot in RAW mode, which saves alot of otherwise bad photos.
