I too find women want badly to be helpful, but once you let them in you are kind of held hostage if they have adopted you. My mom has some wonderful, kind neighbors, but when the women adopt her, its horribly hard to get them to STOP! She only needed help during the storm. now that the walkway is clear, and the sun is out, she doesnt need dishes of food that she doesnt like, understand or know how to store. Folks were upset when she didnt eat their food. She has NO idea what piella is, or sourbroughton, or Schintzel. She wouldnt eat it, and threw some out, and just gave back full plates of other stuff. They gave her food on good china, and then were upset when she dropped and broke a dish. It took months for them to be polite again. They thought her to be rude, and ugly, when it was them that forced themselves on her.
