Don't feel silly. Our clever gal stumped a lot of us.

A couple of years ago on DD19s b-day, my nephews and niece wanted to give her something. When we get together for b-day's, gifts are not really part of it. It's getting together and sharing in the celebration that counts the most. Their parents explained that to them but they insisted. So they went in to their rooms and picked out gifts. She got a marble, an old deck of cards held together with a binder clip, and some beads. It was so cute and they were so proud of their gifts. DD19 treasures those gifts and still has them.

Back in the mid 90s, after my grandmother passed away in July we cleaned out her apartment. During the 'clean' I came across a large baby food jar full of stones...they didn't look like agates, so I asked my mom about them. She started to laugh and told me that they were grandmas gallstones!! I gave out a little scream and proceeded to throw them away.
Now fast forward to christmas time. My mom had given me a super nice birthday gift (12/3) that was also to be my christmas gift so when she handed me a beautiful gift wrapped jewelry sized box on christmas, I wasnt too surprised...so typical of mom, she got me a gift anyways.
I opened the beautiful box and found a golden 'nugget' necklace with matching earrings! I no sooner put the necklace around my neck when I heard someone 'whisper' behind me "should we tell her?" I quickly turned around to find out 'what' they should tell me? And everyone busted out laughing hysterically, choking and crying in laughter when finally someone told me that my necklace and earring set was actually made out of grandmas gallstones! Mom actually spray painted them gold and put them on a cheap chain and earring posts....and wrapped them up for me! So funny, and of course my DH was in on this, so he had the video camera recording it all!

The day after christmas my mom was listening to the local WCCO radio show with Esme Murphy hosting and she asked the audience about strange christmas gifts they had given or received, so my mom called in and was put on the air! The station called her back later and asked if they could come out and interview us for the 10 O'clock News! the reporter who came out was named Frederica Freyburg.

The whole family trucked it back down to moms and we were interviewed fot the news! They used some of the film my DH recorded and showed a picture of my grandma and her 'posthemous' (sp?) gift.

I still have my jewels to this day and bring them and the video out every so often for a good laugh!

That is my very strange gift story! I hope you enjoyed!
