My Tivo usually records what I want it to record. Sometimes, for some reason, when it changes to channel 5, the cable box, will go to channel 5, but then switches to channel 4, and records that. Channel 4 is where another local channel reruns their half hour of news...every half hour. (pretty sure this is a cable box problem, and not a Tivo problem. Not sure why it does that)

Channel 5 is the CBS channel, and is pretty much the only shows I watch (other than Fox news, SyFy and HGTV) are on the CBS channel. So when I want to record something, and it's going to be on channel 5, I always make sure my tv is already on the right channel, so the Tivo will get the correct shows. It's starting to be a pain.

I would love to get one of the newer Tivos that dont require a cable box. Not sure I'm ready to pay $20 a month for the Tivo service tho. (right now it's $12.95) To get a new Tivo, they now give you a discount on the Tivo unit, kind of similar to how cell phones are sold, and you have to sign up for a 2yr contract with Tivo's service. So, if you want the $300 Tivo unit, they sell it to you for $99 and you have to do a service contract with them for at least 2yrs. At least that's how they were doing it last spring when I was considering asking for an HD Tivo for my b-day.

Not so sure I like that setup for the Tivo now. So when my Tivo goes, cable DVR is what I'll probably switch to. If I do that, at least I'll get a shelf back in my bookcase to use for actually storing books. I'll probably still download tv episodes from iTunes tho, since I kind of like being able to watch video on my iPod Touch, and it's easier than Tivo-ing my show, transferring the video wirelessly to my computer (takes 3hrs for a 1hr show to transfer), and I dont have commercials in the iTunes videos.
