Default Out of left field

All of a sudden, out of the blue, a store owner asked me, "Are you still interested in working part-time?" I eloquently answered: "Uh...wwww...uh...I....uh..."

We had talked a few months before I retired, probably around three years ago, when the economy was good and her business was doing well. The "plan" was for me to take a few weeks or months or whatever I needed after I went on disability, and let her know when I was ready to work a few hours a week, running a cash register.

Well, then the economy tanked, her business struggled, the number of people she employed was reduced, and I never thought about it again other than "too bad that didn't work out, hope she doesn't go out of business."

And she still might. I sure hope not, but times are tough. But if things take the upward turn she is hoping for (some changes in the way she does business) she made an offer I can't refuse: pick your own hours, pick the length of your shift.

I told her of my concerns about my physical limitations and day-to-day problems. She said she knows that MS can be "up and down" and no worries, she'd understand if I tried it and decided I couldn't do it.

So we'll see. If it doesn't pan out, I'm no worse off. I would really like to think I can handle it, maybe a couple of four hour shifts a week to start out. Wow. I'd eat a pile of fish if I thought it really was brain food!!
