Default Gasoline Prices

Gasoline prices are ridiculous everywhere. Here in the area of GA where I live they are anywhere from $3.99 to $4.49 a gallon. DS just paid $4.09 a gallon for regular unleaded.

How much is it where you live? What have you had to do in order to accommodate this into your budget?

I gave up my car over a year ago. There are times when I miss it but, right now, I'm thankful it's gone. Fortunately, I can order online most everything I need and DS takes me to the grocery store every two weeks or so. I've learned how to stock up and stockpile.

I thought I heard that gas prices were going to go down by about 50 cents but so far all they've done is increase. How is this affecting you and your family?

I'm in Omaha, Nebraska. Gas made it up to $3.89 for the alcohol gas last week. I think regular gas was above $4 tho. We use the alcohol gas in our cars. (a 1999 Toyota RAV4, and a 2006 Toyota Siena minivan)

It's now down to $3.79 at the local gas station for the alcohol gas. Everything else is above $3.85. If we go to Costco, the alcohol gas (as of tuesday) was $3.70. Costco usually has the cheaper gas. Most of the time.

They don't get much gas money out of me anymore, no matter what it costs.

I remember, back in the good old days, filling the tank of my Standard shift, chevy biscayne, every 2 weeks for 6.00....no kidding.

Today, regular gas is $3.89 for the name brands. It's $3.62 at Sam's Club, Costco and Kroger. During the power outages, stations were charging 20 to 30 cents more per gallon because they were having to use gas powered generators to run their pumps. So 2 weeks ago we paid $3.89 to $4.10 a gallon.

Gasbuddy dot com can be customized by state to see current prices. Ours is updated frequently and I can shop around for gas if needed.

I am very thankful for my 3 little gas sippers... 20 yr old Nissan and 2 Civics less 4 yrs old. Our driving area is a combo of rural and small city.

Went to Costco tonight. It went up there. It was $3.76 for the alcohol gas.

I think it was about $3.89 in Kansas, too.

We have two trips to Canada planned this summer. With the conversion (the dollar exchange rate, and, converting liters to gallons), they tell me that it's getting close to $6.00 a gallon there.

Wow, I'm going to have to move! We went DOWN to $4.13.9! We are driving to see the grandkids next week, then on to my brothers house to see him. We still have boxes of things left of my Moms apartment to get to people. Their cars were to full to get it all home. I'm just glad no one had to rent a uhaul.

I believe you, Sal! I remember going with my Mom to the Hess gas station (remember those?) and it was 29 cents a gallon!

I remember when gas hit $1.00 a gallon. Every store freaked out because the pumps were not able to read one dollar. They could go up to 99 cents, and after that needed to buy new pumps. Some pumps had attendants out there that measured the gas they pumped and then used a hand written bit of math to add up what the cost was at $1.03 a gallon. Alot of stations thought it was a fad and they would fall, so they refused to invest in the new fangled pumps.

Remember when they would come out, check your oil, tires and wipe your windows? Always polite and would never let a lady pump her own? Offer to get you a cold drink from the machine if you had a dime for it.

I want those days back again! I remember going to the "fillin' station" (that's what we called them) and running over that thing that dinged to let them know someone was there. There was a station right around the corner from our house that had one bay where they'd work on cars, two pumps for gasoline and a little office area where the attendant sat and waited for customers. Sorta like Mayberry! I miss those days.
