When the sky turns black, that's bad. Also bad when you have green clouds (hail comes from green clouds)

Hope the stormy spinnies don't turn your house into toothpicks.

You actually stopped to post a message before hitting the basement?? Bad Dej!! Bad!! (I take my laptop with me)

Looks like a tornado warning headed into Maine, also. Hope it's not in the vicinity of Riverwild or Yeahbut...??

DANG! that was intense! Green sky, blowing winds, and then the green gave way to black. it was like midnight out here, and then it got yellow green, and the wind started ripping. We have tons of trees down, and some scorched landscaping, but the house is in one peice, and so are we. Jack handled it well, because he thought we were just digging thru stuff in the basement to amuse him. Lily wanted to sit in the window and look out. Both were angry I locked the cat door that leads to the basement.

So, whew! tons of property damage, but we are all great. Still have electric, cable, and tV with internet! cant beat that!

Thanks for the prayers. This stuff is headed to Maine, so fasten your seatbelts.

SO glad you were spared the ravages of the storm. We are seriously looking into getting a storm shelter added to our property. The big issue is where on such a small plot. The nearest public shelter is a good 6 minutes away...so we have to do something after those April 27 storms were so close.

One thing we have in our shelter(closet) is bike helmets for every family member. Sounds kinda strange, but protecting your head is the best bet for survival. If you are caught in those strong storms you will be holding on to something, not covering your head. The reason we thought of this: a cousin lost her entire house in a tornado in 1995. She had a 6 month old boy who got hit in the head with something..it was dark. The next day he started experiencing seizures and they were never able to get his condition under control. He died at age 5...he was having up to 200 seizures a day.

That's a really good idea about the bike helmets. We had multiple tornado warnings every day & night for over a week last month. One funnel cloud passed directly overhead as I watched, about midnight. The kids were finally asleep & I didn't want to wake them if it wasn't necessary since they hadn't had a full night's sleep in days. We had them in long pants and long sleeve shirts and had their shoes ready and were going to hop into the bathtub if it looked like we were going to blow away.

The twister that took out Denning, AR passed less than a mile from my mom's house, really less than a half mile. She had one tree down and said all her windows were covered with what looked like ash, but it was ground up insulation and debris. There is tin and siding in little pieces wrapped around the fence wires. Amazing power in those things.
