Default ms friendly family vacation?

Dh2b tells me last night he is taking a week off in july and we are taking a vacation. Which is great seeing as this is the first time he have been able to do so in the 4 yrs we have been together...except....

He wants to take the kids to disney. While I would love to take the kids to disney, I also realize that this is impossible for one of us. With the broken bones in my spine and this stupid disease certain horrors popped up in my head. I cannot stand for more than 10 minutes without being in excruciating pain, I cannot ride any rides, I cannot walk around the park, I cannot stand the heat. This vacation would be miserable for me.

He seems to think it will be fine him and the girls can go do the parks and ride rides and I can stay at the hotel doing the spa thing. On the one hand I like to be pampered but on the other this is a family vacation and one which I would not be spending with my family.

So I am trying to think of an alternative that we could all participate in. What are some ms friendly vacation ideas?

Hershey has a wonderful set up. Not far from your home. The kids can do the rides, mom can be wrapped in chocolate spa land. They rent scooters and you can motor everywere, while they hoof it. Plus you can drive there! no air plane woes. You can buy all sorts of packages if you shop well.

Disney also has some wonderful spa services and you can rent a scooter to go everywhere with you. All the staff are extremely tolerant of handicaps of all sorts. You can go to the head of the line and not wait for hours in the sun. If Disney is rented out, you can call a local place for a rental scooter. Remember disney has several other parks really close by. Epcott, seaworld, and a bit of a drive is Bush Gardens. Remember you will need an airplane, car rental and so on. Please pick a place that is on the Tram line for the park and you will be amazed at how easy that makes it all. Just jump the tram to the park and leave the car parked. You can negotiate all sorts of packages if you deal well.

There are tons of SixFlags and Waterparks in all of those southern states that wont take you far from home as well. You can send him out with the kids for the day and momma can book into the local spa or kick back and read a book without need for a pet sitter.

I want to go to Hershey! I am waiting for OFF season to go.

I don't know, Legzz........DH2B sounds like he has a pretty good idea! Ya'll could do the "family" thing in the evening and, this way, everyone gets to have fun. I'd latch onto that deal in a hot minute!

You could also be the photographer for the event. Take tons of silly photos of everyone. its really hard when you cant stand in line for hours, tolerate the heat, or the pain and need meds, but if you arrange well you can You can do a schedule that 8-10 is family time, get ready time, and hotel time. 10-3 is park time with a break to meet for lunch. 3-6 is quiet hotel time where kids play in the pool, and mom rides the mattress ride. quiet dinner and clean up time followed by fireworks or a movie on TV. This gives all time to play at the park while not exhausting mom.

You could also do something like Grand Canyon and ride donkeys down the hill. its hard on a hurting back, but at least its a sit down ride.

I think if you plan well you can do ANY park. Busy or not. it will just take some firm ground rules ahead of time. Explaining that "other families" do things that we may not always understand and sometimes it makes us jealous, but OUR family does this! it makes them a team, and encompasses all members, not just a wild free for all of kids screaming thru a park while mom screams WAIT! Practice at home. It was very helpful to my kids to know what was expected of them BEFORE our feet hit the soil.

I would go to a place like Myrtle Beach where there are lots of of fun things for the kids to do while you can relax on the beach or by the pool and cool down in the water.

If you want to go to Disney, I would wait until a cooler month. There are lots of attractions that do not involve rides. But I would definitely get a scooter too and stay at a Disney hotel so you can easily get back to the room when you need a rest.

We went to Disney in October. AAA rented the scooter for me and it was delivered and powered up at my Disney resort before I got there. We also bought the fast food dining plan which gave us a lot of food. If I didn't want to I wouldn't have had to get out of my scooter for anything except to get on the commode since I could ride the scooter right into the bathroom. The charge satyed strong all day long, easily tore down so my DH and son in law could put it in the car. If you are at a Disney Resort you can ride the transit to all parks and other resorts but since we were at a reosrt that was kind of at the end of the line the transport would take a long time so we drove out car to the theme park. If you stay at a resort you park free at the theme park.

I;m not saying you need to go to Disney but so many of my fears did not come true and we had a wonderful but exhausting time

Been to Disney and really didnt care for it. We have vowed to do all these places ONCE! I was happy for that policy about Disney. I found it overwhelming with noise, lights, bright colors, the crowds and always on the go go go. If I had kids, it would be another story, but the whole children everywhere thing wore me to a nub. Dollywood was the same way.

I wouldnt do disneyland, I think I'm allergic to children.

If I were feeling better, I'd go to Washington D.C. and go see all the museums and monuments, and maybe go find a few Civil War battlefields.

Right now, for me a vacation would be leaving the house to go downtown to see a local museum or two and then hitting the fancypants Italian restaurant that I like, but never get to go to because it's downtown and we never go down there anymore since my grandma died.

If we get a cool day sometime soon, I might make the attempt to go to the Zoo. We're not getting any cool days soon tho. It's forecast to be 100 degrees tomorrow (or hotter!!!) I'm going to vacation in my basement...knitting dishcloths and worshiping the a/c

Orlando in July, or until at least until Nov is miserable. I live in Fl and I wouldn't go to Mousetown till winter! But if he insists on going, be aware that the gas stations (2)right by the park are gouging people by charging $2 more than regular rate.
