Default So Sad today....

I went to see my Neurologist this morning for one of my regular 6 month check in. I have been on Tysabri for 18 months now, and this is the first appointment that didn't require me to have an MRI, which is great.

I love my Neurologist, he was the first one I had seen that actually had a heartbeat and compassion.

After going through all of my questions (and DH Q's), the Dr. told us that he will be retiring in November 2011! I instantly felt like I had been punched in the gut! I am not ready for him to retire yet, I've only been seeing him for 2 years and I really, really like him and have so much respect and admiration for him.

Dr. Parry is going to be heavily involved in hiring his replacement, and I asked that he make sure that the prospect has a heartbeat...that is the best place to start. I really hope I like him/her, because I don't want to have to look for a new one. I sure hope this one is young and is very far away from retirement!

I am so sad....I start crying whenever I think about it.

i just went thru the same thing. the MS center "restructured" and what a change! my fav nurse quit, my fav PA transferred, my fave PA/going to be an MD got reassigned and my MD is now doing researching stuff while his replacement is a "my way or the highway" kinda guy. Where as before they were slow, cautious and very instructive with meds, or interventions, now they are quick to throw pills or IVs at you. I miss the old way!

I hope your MD hires his twin.

Thanks Dej, I hope so too!

I was really proud of myself for 'not' crying at my appointment....but that went down the drain when he told us about his retirement!

When we were first married, Bob was forced to go to a doctor after many years of avoiding them, and he really liked my PCP, Dr. M! He was so young looking that we called him Doogie Howser (not to his face of course). When he told us he was moving out of state, we were so bummed.

Then...we signed up with Dr. Z, and we liked him even better! I won't write two pages of reasons why, but we couldn't believe we actually found a doc we liked as well as Dr. M. Then Dr. Z moved to Washington. We were devastated.

You know you're not going to luck out three times in a row...but WE DID! Our current PCP, Dr. R, is awesome! We are so blessed!

So it really IS possible, and I hope you're soon doing the happy dance about your next neurologist.

I know how you feel. My "Mr. Wonderful"...(my neuro is GREAT), after seeing him for only one year, I found out he has lung cancer and is on some experimental treatment meds. I am soooo dreading what you are going through...my thoughts are with you!
