Default Length of life on Today Show

OMG can you imagine wanting to live to 100? or even 150? On the Today Show this morning they said the person who will live to 150 has already been born. I'd love to hear other opinions but frankly even the very hearty people I have known who get up in the mid to late 80s are about done, imo. The clip they showed with the centurians playing at what appeared to be a senior center or adult day care all looked wifty to me.

They also did a chromosome test that is supposed to indicate how long of a life people will live. Well the lady they tested apparently is older than her natural age and won't live as long as most people. She didn't know the results and although she recovered with dignity I bet she was sorry she did that on live TV.

I'm sorry I missed that, I wonder if they have it on video?

Sally it looks like it is under the Science of Living Beyond 100. I couldn't do a direct link to the video but if you scroll a few over on the top of the page with video offerings you should see it.

Live to be 150? Another 89 years of this? I think not.

My FIL is going to be 90 in a couple of months and no way do I want to live that long...medical science has lengthened our time here on Earth, but not the quality.

My parents and their parents all died in their mid 50s...that's where I am now

If I were healthy? Maybe, The way I am living now, I'm 42 and PRAY I don't see 60. I know what's on the other side and I'm more than ready to get off this rock and out of this carpy body.

I don't doubt the story at all. My dad is 73, very healthy and worries EVERY DAY about money. He retired at 60, two years ago I was talking with my mom about how dad worries about money so much and asked her compared to 11 years earlier, when he retired, how were they financially, she said they have twice as much as they had then. Now I am sure he will live to 100, and sadly I think he will stress about money until his last day.

Imagine how much you have to save up and when you would retire to live to 120 much less 150. No Thanks!.

Well, I'm 70 Earl *smack* and, although I would kill myself if I thought I was going to live to be 150 , I wouldn't mind living on as I am now, for awhile longer.

If I could be like a 20 or 30 year old in those last 70 years(80 to 150) I might consider it, but old, disabled with MS, and out of retirement money! No way. My kids be old too, thinking aren't these people ever gonna leave.

My joints are having a hard time surviving to 60. Pain helps us accept dying younger.

I wouldnt mind living to be 200 IF I can be healthy, take care of my own needs, and I am not tied to some nursing home bed begging the nurses for pain control or euthanasia. If I can be active, alert, and involved, I say go for it, but if I am stuck in a WC, dependant on others for my basic needs or care, I say let me go! My father died at 69 and he was angry to be leaving this place. My mother is 73 and tells everyone that if given the choice to unplug her or do more (even if there is NO hope) she wants folks to keep working! dont quit. she aint leaving her easy. Even if it means hooking her to machines for decades and having the state support her, and burning thru all of her money, and our time she demands to be attended to.

If I have learned one thing about death from being a nurse/parmedic is that we are in death what we are in life. If you are happy go lucky, and easy to take care of, you will face death the same way. if you are selfish, needy and scared thru your life, that is the way you will face your death. There are a few exceptions that in the end of days some folks just click in, tune in and get it, and relax into it, but 95% of the time it follows the way you lived your life.
