This isn't about "sides" as there are no sides in regard to this issue, IMO. It is collective, it is all of us. But this thread is great because I can express my concerns about SS not being paid out. I truly am worried. It's the end of the month and I am down to $6.00 in my account. I am on SSI, apparently. I don't know the difference to be honest other than I get my check at a different time than if I was on SSDI. If I was on SSDI I would get my check around the 19th based on my birthday. Instead I get it on the 3rd of the month. I cannot afford to lose my SS as well as my Medicare.

Now, with that said, I wonder if those that get their checks on the 1st or 2nd of the month will be getting theirs?

As I mentioned in an earlier post, either way, whether they raise the debt ceiling or not, we are all in for some hard times ahead. Either way, the long term effects are unknown and can be quite costly to all of us. Again, IMO.

I did read an article on MSN about the troops and their pay. Very sad, IMO. They are over in the Middle East fighting for our country - risking their lives every day - and may not get paid. Some financial institutions have stepped up and said they will advance their pay. I was so glad to read that. I am now a supporter of USAA and Andrews Federal Credit Union. I honestly think I would just walk if I was risking my life for a country that decided not to pay me my wages.

I'm on SSDI and I get mine the 2nd Wednesday of each month. So......mine is due on August 10th. I have direct deposit so that'll be my first stop on the Internet that morning to see if it's in my account. I do think it will be but until I see it there I won't totally relax.

They passed a deal. not sure of the details but we are assured that the machine will continue to run till 2013 and ALL checks will be dispersed. So, no worries mate, the shrimp is on the barbie!

It will be interesting to see if the social security checks that arrive via the US Postal Service arrive on the 3rd. If they do, I'd think they would have been mailed today. Before the vote. Hmm.

So true, Blessings..

The powers are always afraid, when an election year nears, so expect more of the same innane scare tactics to garner our votes. (from both sides)

Makes me not want to vote for any of them.

that was MY plan! anyone who currently sits in a chair needs to GO HOME! its been run off in a ditch by all 3 sides, and they left us sick and elderly and vets scared, worried, and feeling abandoned. You dont fix a country by abusive acts on the elderly, even if your only single act is to threaten us. Boooo to all of um.

I wondered the same thing. It would mean that the checks were run and maybe even sent before the "deadline."

And no, I don't think that scare tactics are right at all. Isn't that a form of terrorism? It's definitely manipulative and wrong on all accounts.

I just went to the SS website .. and there was info from the commissioner guy (dated: Aug 2) ... that there will be NO delays in checks for the 3rd - or any other day ... so, all is good ...

I have direct deposit and mine was in there this morning. (*tkrik breathing a sigh of relief.*) But, I don't think it is over yet. At least I have some time to plan before they make more cuts.
