Default Appliances, are you kidding me?

So apparently every most every appliance now costs $2,000 because it is color coded to match the drapes, with stanless steel and expensive glass peep holes along with a built in cappuccino maker brewing in the washing machine whilst your bloomers are being rinsed?

For Pete's sake all I want is a new white square clothes dryer for $300. Guess that is too much to ask? Rant over.

Our appliance plan is the same as it's always been: if one dies, we go to Sears and buy the cheapest one, preferably a floor model. The only thing in my house that's color-coordinated is the cat hair.

When I bought my washer/dryer four years ago (at Sears) the sales person tried their best to sell me the "top of the line" front-loading, high efficiency pair but that would have been close to $3,000! I explained to them that all I'm doing is washing and drying clothes. Does this pair fold and put them away, too? Now, if it prepares dinner, cleans up afterwards and loads the dishwasher maybe we can talk. Otherwise......I just need it to wash and dry clothes. I ended up buying a basic white set for $750 and got a $60 rebate! It's still goin' strong!

BTW.....I cannot stand the stainless appliances they have out now. They're almost as bad as the avocado green ones we used to have!

I go to the Sears Outlet where they have the scratch and dent ones. I'm going to ding them up myself, so I might as well have a discount, too.

My dryer timer went out. I priced a repair and part replacement... $300 just for the part. So I'm just going to replace the dryer. For now I set the time on the microwave to beep after 30 minutes of drying time. Works for me!!

I think they make replacement parts so expensive so we'll opt for a new appliance.

We priced some parts for our dryer online and it was much cheaper than buying from a local repair store.
Probably depends on the brand though.

I can't remember which appliance parts site we used, we checked a couple to compare prices & return policies- just in case we had to return something.

dryer timers -

Or we look for a nice replacement on craigslist.com
