Default had to buy a new vacuum

long story short. my ruby red progressive kenmore died. Why you ask? well, my DS decided to clean out his broken down pick up IN THE RAIN! and then tipped over a huge cup of coffee, and kept right on sucking. next day all sticky and wet I opened it to clean it out and the bag was SOAKED! it was drippy with coffee and ick and over stuffed. the sucker part wouldnt turn on! the beater bar brush would, but no suction means the dang thing is useless.

REpair shop said $50 to diagnose it and probably from what I am saying another $150 to repair it. I said NO! I have been asking folks what stuff they like, but in the end, got another progressive by kenmore. its been a good vac for a long time.

This is what I got.

http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_1...&blockType=G14

it has a telescoping hose so I dont have to bend to vacuum. I can also reach the ceiling without standing on a chair. It has all horsehair bristles, and a pet hair remover power head. I tried it out today and it is a TON better than my old heavy monster. This one has aluminium hose parts so its very lightweight, and the hose is 2 feet longer than the last guy, and the cord is a full 5 feet longer than the last one. Whoo!

DS had no choice but to replace what he broke. I felt bad for the kid cause he has so many expenses, but we cannot live without a sucker in this house. So, that is ONE of the things that I have had to replace due to DS not being careful with my things. Remind me later to tell you about grease on my CASHMERE Sweater! OMG I was mad! I forgot what its like to have a boy in the house.

Did he think your old vacuum was a wet/dry vac??

I usually use our wet/dry vac to clean our cars out. I dont want to bring car nastiness into the house with our good vacuums. Or I go to the do-it-yourself car wash and use their vacuum.

Now I'm getting lazy and planning on paying money to get my car washed and detailed.

We have a Kenmore vacuum that worked great until a construction worker working on our house decided to use it to clean up a mess of something...that he made. I walked in just in time to see and hear him accidentally vacuum up a couple of drill bits with my vacuum. Now the beater bar on the Kenmore doesnt work anymore.

At least the hose part works, and I can use that to clean up stuff that I cant reach with our Oreck.

We're probably going to be buying a new vacuum that will work on wood floors, because our brand new cleaning lady keeps trying to use our Oreck, which isnt supposed to be used on wood floors, on our wood floors. Cheaper to buy a new vacuum that does work on wood than to go get new wood floors.

I was always a Hoover kinda gal, but, now that my floors are all wood, I just use a wet or dry swiffer.

Your DS cracks me up. where was his mother..lol..

Did you smack him? I woulda smacked him. Tell him I have the world's tiniest shop vac at my house. http://www.google.com/products/catal...=0CJgBEPMCMAA#

Made DH2B buy it for me when i decided to shampoo the sofa and the steamer thing decided to stop sucking up the water. Now it lives in the garage for those rare ocassions when someone decides to vacuum my car.

Thumbs up

Oh, we have a Kenmore too. They typically get good reviews on Consumer Reports. Hubby bought our newest one, when I was upNorth about 3 yrs ago... it is very similar to your new one!

First, I have a RAINBOW machine that pulls AIR thru WATER, so its a WET vac! http://rainbowsystem.com/ its an amazing machine! love love love it! but its heavy, so I dont use it for much. I would sell it in a heart beat if I thought I could. its just too much. Anyway, DS chose the pretty red lightweight machine that I drag thru the house for MY inside jobs! I did not see him, as I was out at appointments. I came home and the DH was quick to tattle on him. I said "why didnt YOU stop him?!" he said "didnt notice till it was way too late." UGH! So, he caught DS lugging the "dripping" machine to the steps of the house to "dry off before mom gets home" DS now owns that machine! he will have to pay for the new one when the bill arrives.

I took the new one out last night and was quite impressed. its light, fast, powerful, and unlike me, I waited to get hom to read the reviews. It has a good rep, except for the plastic style hinges on the compartment doors. I got the "pet" model, like that changes anything but the price.

he went past the water vac to get to the dry vac, and his step mom always had a rainbow in the house, as well as me, so he knows what the machine is. UGH! he has to pay for such mistakes here. I told him if he can get the old one working, I will let him off the hook for the new one, but it MUST be working and not have some fancy manuevering like Holding down the power button with one hand, and the hose with the other. Im not juggling when I vacuum.

Did you tell him to put it in a really big box of dry, uncooked rice? I know that some electronics that have gotten wet can be fixed by putting them in dry, uncooked rice. The rice sucks the water out of the electronics somehow.

I dont know how it works exactly, and depending on how big the item is, you might have to buy a lot of rice for it to sit in. The rice solution probably also depends on how much water got into it, and how long it was in the water.
