Meatloaf is considered a "Fall/Winter" food here, too. I love it with homemade mashed potatoes and fresh green beans. Biscuits with butter and honey and cinnamon-baked apples for dessert. Makes the whole house smell yummy for days.

My Mom used to make the best Vegetable Beef soup. As hard as I try I cannot duplicate the taste of it. Maybe it's just my memory remembering how good it used to taste and smell. That's such a good memory I'm not sure I'd want to duplicate it exactly. It's more fun just remembering how good it used to be. Probably because Mom made it.

It's supposed to be in the 40's by tomorrow morning. I wish I had some whole milk and cocoa so I could make some hot chocolate. Oh, and some mini marshmallows to go on top.

I had some good ole' fashioned Campbell's Chicken Rice Soup for lunch today. And some Ritz crackers. Made me feel like a kid again. My Mom used to serve Campbell's soup all the time in the Fall and Winter. Her favorite was the Chicken Gumbo. I bought some of that, too, when I got groceries. I'll have it with a grilled cheese - just like she did. Probably won't taste as good as I remember it tasting 40 years ago but it'll still be good.

My mom had her own version of Brunswick stew. She canned over 200 quarts of tomatoes every year and NOTHING can beat the taste of her stewed tomatoes in stew. She always served it with a thick slice of white cornbread. She hated the taste of yellow cornmeal so she always used the white cornmeal.

I'm thinking of making some beef stew for dinner.

butternut squash soup. YUM!
Apple cider. apple crisp, apple pies.
pumkin pie! or pumpkin ravioli
I love fall. I love that it gets dark early so I can END my day without guilt. Too many folks see day light and think you are a quitter. When its dark (even at 6) you can just excuse yourself and go lay down. I used to hate it, but now that I want more rest im in love! im up with the chickens so I get plenty of rest when I get to go to bed early.
