Default Lonely, but...

It's a trade-off. Sometimes I get really, really lonely. Yes, I'm married, and he's a great guy, but sometimes I get lonely for OTHER people. But then there's the trade-off.

Relationships take energy and assume commitment. I don't do either very well these days. Sometimes I catch myself thinking "Nobody ever calls me." Well...most of the time I don't really WANT to talk on the phone, so I tend not to call people...or call them back.

I don't really want to go places (see other thread), and neither of us do company very well. That pretty much narrows it down. So to over-simplify it, I don't want to be lonely, but I don't want to be around people. I can hear my mother saying, "You can't have it both ways". Well, apparently I can.

Am I making any sense at all?? Sorry...this is the time of night I get really philosophical and really stupid at the same time.

Makes total sense to me. I feel the same way most of the time.

I never thought, when I was younger, that I would feel that way, but that's exactly how I feel, B2Y. I don't have the energy to entertain friends anymore and that's why I don't have as many.

B2Y, I know exactly what you mean. I have a friend who is single and lives out of state. She calls me every night and two to three times a day on week ends. It is too much responsibility. I have other things I want to do.

I call my mother once a week. She always tells me that she looks forward to my phone calls and they make her day. I could call her more often. My long distance calls are free so money is not an excuse. I don't call her more often because I do not want to be bothered.

I have an Aunt who also lives out of state. She has asked me to send her my phone number many times. I do not send it because I do not want her to call me. Receiving phone calls annoys me.

I though I felt this way because I might be depressed. I'm glad to hear other people feel the same. Maybe it is the weather.

KK, just because a lot of us feel the same doesn't mean some of us aren't depressed! I find it hard to separate fatigue from depression, lassitude from apathy.

I like getting phone calls from people I know (and like). What annoys me is when my phone rings at 8:55 PM and it's a survey taker acting like they know me. They use my first name and start the conversation off with "Hey, (my name)!! How are you?!" Trying to make me think it's a friend or someone I know. It's only then that they tell you they're doing market research and would just love my opinion. Wish I could come up with a decent "opinion" so they'd stop calling me!

Well, then, Sall, we're BOTH idiottes! I get anxious and nervous when I'm on the phone, especially if I don't initiate the call. Not all of the time, but a good share of the time. My thinker works better on the computer than in real life.

Ditto...lonely, but I have phonephobia; I don't like to bother anyone. I also don't tolerate groups very well anymore, and usually have to go home early. I get anxious and the noise is too much.
Blech...
