Cool Fall and Food!

I love Fall. I love everything about it from the weather to the food to the colors of the leaves to the fact it gets dark at 5:30 PM!

I've got apples on my grocery list so I can make my first batch of applesauce. I've got a recipe for the crockpot and it makes the house smell amazing.

What are some of the Fall foods you like to make?

The first full week in October our city has it's annual Fall Festival. It is the second largest street festival in the US, Mardi Gras is the first. We have about a mile of food booths with any exotic food you may want, carnival rides and games of chance. As soon as you approach the area your cholesterol goes up twenty points just smelling it. I'll try to find the link so you can see the list of foods. It all benefits our West side Nut Club which provides all sorts of grants to different organizations. We have a karoake, talent show, tug of war between middle schools, lighthouse parade made by the little kids, pet parade and main parade. No admission but they charge a lot for the food but it benefits the organization who has the booth. I've gone on to long. But you asked!

Here is the Wikepedia link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/West_Si..._Fall_Festival

I've never heard of red flannel hash. Do you eat it or wear it?

I googled it. Sounds good except for the beets. But that's what probably makes it red. Otherwise it sounds like the corned beef hash my Mom used to make.

Okay.....now I'm hungry.......

Everybody makes it a little different. My friend Nita (who died 7 years ago today ) made the best ever, nice chunks of carrot, rutabaga, onion, potato...it was better than dessert, yum yum yum.

Fall food back in the day was meat loaf and baked potatoes. Our old house was so hot in the summer, you just couldn't turn on the oven. Then the kids would come home from school one afternoon, stop dead in their tracks and say, "Do I smell MEATLOAF??" It was time to celebrate.

Split pea and ham soup, with cornbread. Oh baby.
