What a wonderful, caring gesture! I really hope she gets lots of work out of this and that the donations come flooding in for Maimy's surgery. I know if I could do it I'd buy a portrait of my cats but they like to eat so I have to put the money into food for them! These paintings would make wonderful Christmas/birthday/anniversary presents.

@Kitty. It was an unexpected surprise to have Dann's roommate helping like that. And $25 is reasonable for a gift for the holidays.
I remember long ago when i worked in an office and we had a secret Santa exchange, I donated to a good cause (I forget what!) and received a pin which I gave to my coworker letting her know I had donated in her name. That was my gift. I thought it was better than a Starbucks gift card because really, it meant more. So cool to see this. Makes one know there are good people in the world. |

One of the vets (the overpriced specialty cat vet) I was taking Oreo to, had murals painted on the walls of the exam rooms.
They were not sterling examples of art, but they were funny and useful. Our other long time vet who missed Oreo's tumor, in her abdomen, in July has nice colorful/playful portraits of cats and dogs... sort of like this artist friend of your son's, life drawing class of the model with skeleton. I have a skeleton drawing with model too... if you send me an email via PM, I'll send you my life studies that are similar. I did them about 15 yrs ago... you might be interested. But they are not appropriate to post here IMO. (I have an "image" to maintain here...LOL). So I do like this young artist's work. If the vet doesn't want these for his office, he may know someone else who might... that is always a possibility. The vet prices today are totally out of range of normal people. I can't believe I would be able to buy a CAR with Oreo's expenses alone. $900 for an ultrasound with needle aspiration biopsy, showing an inoperable cancer...that the cat vet wanted to drain us anyway and put Oreo in terrible pain/recovery for her last months. I got a 4th opinion after $2000 spent and this vet said he would never do this to his own cat. So we are doing palliative treatment with steroids to buy some months of quality life for 13 yr old Oreo...who is beautiful and a wonderful cat and who has a unique joi de vivre! I seem to have lost the last 5 weeks...myself... strung out over our own struggles with this!

Just went thru this with JAck. He was so sick and needed constant medical attention and surgery after surgery and then hospital stay after hospital stay and then a huge surgery and shots, and pills and ear creams. it rang up quite a total and we are well over 3k into this cat now. Its heartbreaking to look at an animal that you love so much and have to rub your wallet.
Im glad his kitty will get some help.

Maimy is home now and DS sent me an email of the scar/stitching. He plans to post so I will add his update when I see it on his blog.
DS has renter's insurance. He will probably get animal insurance once he gets out of the financial hole this created. It is tough to be at the brink of paying off student loans and have this debt piled on top. But he and his art friend Jillian are amazing. Maimy is a lucky cat. I am sending him money but I am also going to have Jillian draw a picture. I cannot resist $25 for an original piece of art! Who knows? The antique road show in years to come may tell me how my artwork has increased in value! I love being able to tell about what I want and see what happens. Just the idea that a roommate would do this is also part of wanting a drawing. I know that every time I will look at it, I will remember the goodness of the willingness to help. |

SO thankful this kitty is doing better and is at home. Such an awful break! I can only imagine the pain the poor thing went through until found. How on earth did he break it?
Thank you for the update and I'm still praying for a speedy and complete recovery.
