Default Let's be selfish and materialistic

Just for a couple of minutes!! Imagine that a whole pile of money came into your life...millions! (Tax free, of course )

AFTER you donate a bunch of money to various charities, research, and other good causes...AFTER you buy your mom a house and your sister a car and build a playground at the local school....

What would you buy/do for YOU! I'm guessing that many of us live frugally and simply, and are happy if our needs are met. But for fun, what are some wants? What comes to your mind?

I would do the obvious, home upgrades and accessibility (or a new home), probably a new Subaru. Then:

I would buy 14 really nice nightgowns, 7 summer and 7 winter, all cotton and well made. A clean one for every night without having to wear one I don't like. (They'd probably all be blue )

I would get a new computer, high speed internet, and a dvr (is that the right word?) so I could watch the shows that are on past my bedtime. And some really good headphones.

I'd have central air-conditioning. *sigh*

A really good desk chair.

I'd try one of those Jenny Craig type deals where they bring you the tasty food to help you lose weight. And then I'd try not to eat it all the first day.

I'd buy myself a yarn store. I'd have to hire someone to work in the store for me, because I'd just sit there and crochet/knit with the customers. (If I had a good enough jackpot win, I'd make sure my employees had healthcare paid for and 2 week vacations)

Another thing I'd do for myself, but would actually be for a relative would be to remodel (bring up to code!) a relatives house. Just found out one of my relatives cant take a shower because the pipes in the house are in such bad shape she cant get any hot water to her upstairs bathroom (where her only shower is) Her other bathroom has a tub, that she cant use because she was hurt in a car accident and getting into a big clawfoot tub is too difficult for her. Her house is probably still in the 1930s (maybe the 1950s) for the electrical wiring (it's all knob and tube wiring) Pretty sure the house is one step from being condemned.

I'd have the entire house remodeled and brought up to code and into the 21st century and then give my relative money to keep the place up, pay the taxes...or she could sell the place and keep the money and buy a modern house, whatever. I just dont want that relative living in a place that I think is unsafe. I dont even get along with her that well, but I want her living in a safe home. I really wish I'd win Powerball just so I could do that. That house has been in the family since the early 1940s. I'd love to see it fixed up to save the historical parts of the house, but modernize the bathrooms and the kitchen and all the electrical.

Her kitchen floor (the joists and footings underneath holding up the kitchen floor actually) scares the crap out of me.

Or, I'd just give her the money to go buy a house wherever she wants, and then pay to tear down the old house so that it's not a deathtrap and build something new there and sell the new house.

I would buy a beautiful water front home on a large parcel of land and hire a housekeeping service.

I would completely redo my home to be handicap accessable and then pay some one to move me in it. I also would buy a van to be able to put a scooter that I may or may not need in the future. I want nice land scaping to be relaxing, a really nice swing set for the grand kids and a really nice deck. Of course this would take enough of my lawn that DH would not have much lawn to mow anymore. My dream is to have a large enough beach house that the whole family can gather each year for a month or less. This beach house needs to be some what secluded and have a nice boat so that my reckless son in law can have fun and the other son in law can also have his family time. Both my girls need new homes and in new neighborhoods than they live in now. I really don't believe in providing everything wonderful for my grown up kids so that they don't have a sense of responsibility. I don't even know if my youngest would allow it. I know my oldest would. She would say it is a gift from God so therefore she is meant to have it. I think I would give some to a couple of my favorite charities. When my sister died 45 years ago of cancer after an amputation my parents set up a fund through our church convention for scholarships for handicapped people who are going to college. It has grown to a huge amount now. It has been taken over, with parents permission, by some one else now and the focus is different but it is still a scholarship fund. Also hospice was so wonderful when Mom was sick and died they deserve a lot of help. So for right now that is where I would spend my money!

I want my house professionally decorated and then updated seasonally.

And my yard (1.4 acres) beautifully landscaped and maintained.

*sigh*

And I would do some traveling.

Oh, and a fancy sewing machine.

A cushy computer chair.

And a closet full of shoes!

I want a handicap accessible house on the ocean that is big enough for friends and relatives to visit. But I also wanted a heated pool. I would like a second home in Wisconsin or Michigan for those warm summer months. It would be on a lake. I would like a private plane and pilot. I would also like to have either George Clooney or Hugh Jackman as my person chef and caretaker

Default RE: my wish

I would have the money to pay my taxes so I don't loose my home. I would have house insurance and not have to worry about hurricanes blowing me away. I would have the peace of mind that comes from having the necessary things you need to have a content life. living in poverty due to my disability has been traumatic. I would have the money for dental care, so I can chew my food better. My stress would melt away. ginnie

I'd buy a house on the North Shore of Little Cayman overlooking the Jackson's Bight section of the Bloody Bay Wall so I could scuba dive the best reef in the Caribbean from my front porch. I'd also buy a small private jet that could fly to and from the states from the short runway there.
