Default perspective

At 3am Sunday I had to use Bathroom. Did, got up, transferred back to chair, it wouldn't go, service light blinked. DH put into manual push mode, back to bed. I was all stressed, pain in arm started and had to get up. Read my Kindle, slept in up-right mode (kinda - Dogs make noise, DH left bedroom door open a crack, drafts made it move and creak, I was cold and not very comfortable.)

Chinese tell tale of man who goes to village wise man and complains of in-laws living with him. Wise man says he can help. Brings your cows into the bedroom he says. A week later the village man comes back and tells him this is so not helping. Put your chickens in the living room the wise man said. A week later the village man is back. OMG he says, It's really terrible at home. The wise man tells him to take cows and chickens out.

A week later the village man returns. He tells the wise man, things are sooo much better and you know, my in-laws really aren't that bad.

Yesterday I had cows in my bedroom, chickens in my living room. I couldn't move, do anything, reach most things. I can't propel manual chair (feet don't reach ground, have use of only one hand-go so in circles if I use it propelling with one hand and seat hurts after awhile. So sat in big heavy dead chair, left where-ever I was pushed.) There were Chickens and cows in my rooms! MS in a power chair with freedom, independence doesn't look so bad now. Perspective came and gave me a big slap in the face
Repair guys coming today. Hope they hurry.

Thanks, kicker, I really needed to hear that. I think perspective is what we need when others think we need to "look on the bright side". It might seem like the same thing on the surface, but it's not. I need to find a photo of some cows and chickens, and use it as my desktop. A really, really good reminder.

Hope you are cowless and chickenless today.

I'm crying, but it's in anger. They can send a technician out Thursday!!!!!!! WTF!!! I repeat, I can't move, get to toilet or get food and water. The sound of my suppressed tears in my voice moves the woman, she puts me on hold, calls around, returns with they can come tomorrow. That's the best I can get, I take it. DH calls, I can hardly talk for choking back tears, he comes home immediately from his office 5 minutes away. We do this, we do that and chair is working again but it might not work if I do anything. So I'll leave it on today, me alone, DH went back to office. The lady returns my call to 24/7 emergency line I made yesterday This makes me cry in frustration. Emergency! Yesterday! There's few to help out there. Alone in this journey.

If worse came to worse I know I could rent a chair. I have the funds. What if I didn't? I have options. What if I didn't? Cats and dogs wouldn't get fed, me either. But DH does have my back. I have options. Some don't. MS really does suck. Our voice (the Handicapped) is pretty much unheard.

OK, off my soapbox, but I'm mad.

Isn't that a chicken in your avatar? You're half-way there!

Gaaaaawwwwwd, I'm mad too, for you and because I've been there.. I can use a manual, but it's difficult, as my left arm and hand are very numb and weak, so I just get exausted moving from here to there.

I'd like to put some of these so called service place owners in a small room, tie their hands and feet together and give them a scooter that doesn't run and see how they like it.

I love your prospective story and I will live by that now, but I'm alone and someone is not always available to help me, so the B*****ds better come ASAP or I'll call the police..

Thanks Kicky and give your DH a big hug from Sally..

Sally,
It is a tough world isn't it? Good thing we're tough old broads.

I fell awhile back and my only choice was calling EMTS (DH did from Virginia where he was). They were nice young men, picked me up, sat me in chair. I kept my dignity, not easy when you're in your underwear. Oh well. Actually calling a neighbor while in my underwear would have been way tougher.

Default I can relate

Oh Kicker I so relate to what you're saying! My DH works out of state 2 weeks of every month so I'm alone. It's so scary when some sort of essential equipment malfunctions and of course it happens when DH is gone! I get so frustrated! But then I think of all of you and remember that you are out there going through these same things and you are surviving and so will I! Plus we're not just surviving we're living to tell the tale and laugh about it, we are tough broads! The last time I fell and I had to call the EMS guys ( I only seem to fall in the shower or bathroom when I'm in shirt, underwear or towel) I didn't feel so alone and humiliated because I knew that you were out there dealing with the same thing. Thank you!
Hugs
Karen

So sorry for your challenges and frustrations.

I'm not making light of your reality, but

I just can't help but wonder if those EMS's gather at the water cooler and compare notes on people's underwear. "You wouldn't believe this one lady -- hers were the ugliest color and a piece of lace had come unsewn..."

Meanwhile, I'd like to take a sharp stick and poke that lady in the eye who made you cry. I mean, after all, it's an EMERGENCY line -- can't they do better than that?
