I am on an automatic refill program through my pharmacy. What I didn't know was that if you have no refills left they won't fill it unless you call them. So I knew I was going to need my Elavil script but since it was on automatic refill I put it aside. So i got my call saying my refills were ready and picked them up. To my extreme distress my Elavil wasn't in the bag. What were my legs going to be like without this? I couldn't imagine the burning. But I also take Clonazipine. I take 1 1/2 pills. So last night knowing I wouldn't have one for tonight I took only 1 Elavil and an extra 1/2 Clonazepine and I would do the same tonight. I slept so much better! Don't know what the difference was. Maybe I slept better because of the extra Clonazepine.

Ugh, I can't stand how often we have to jump through stupid hoops for medicines. ![]() I'm sorry they have you out of Elavil and hope they have it refilled soon. I'm glad you slept better though. Maybe you need to see about upping you Clonazepine for every night. |

My Pharmacy calls the Doctor for a new script for most medications. There are some that can't do it for though, for them they should call you when you get your last refill.

When it was the old program and I needed a refill, if I was out of refills they did. But on this new automatic program they don't. I guess they figure that sometimes a doctor stops or changes a medicine and they would just automatically refill it and sell it to you. A lot of people might go ahead and keep taking it because the phaarmacy gave them a new refill.

What I know: Automatic refills are done by computer.
A human does not see them at all until the request pops up on the pharmacy screen. A well run automated program, is supposed to call you when the refills are expired. But it appears yours did not have that in its program software. Many states have time limits on refills. For non controlled subtances, in many it is 12 months. Controls have a maximum of 5 refills within 6months, and that is a Federal rule, and covers all states. Some states like NY may be stricter with this. When you typed-- Clonazepine-- did you mean Clonazepam? Or Clozapine? Clonazepam is a controlled substance and would be in the 5 x within 6mos rule. Clozapine is not, but would not be in an automated refill program for other reasons. (it requires a blood test before every refill). The Elavil would be in the 1 yr refill bracket, if the doctor ordered it that way. The 1 yr rule is for people on long term therapy, but any doctor order less than 1 yr would be entered as such. Say if your doctor wants you in for evaluation every 3 or 4 months or whatever. So it really depends on what your doctor ordered in the refill field.

Thanks MrsD. I meant Clonazepam, or Klonopin. I still don't think I have it right! Up to 3 months ago I had to personally call in every refill so I guess when I put aside each med that I know needs refill I need to check to see if it has refills. Every day we learn things and adapt.

I refuse to use the automated refill (automatic) .
Too many things can happen and you end up with medications you may not use. CVS does call and "remind" me but it doesn't fill them automatically. Once when I went in there they put me on it without my permission, and I made them take it off.

Rite Aid kept filling my 30-day prescriptions after I had gotten new 90-day ones. It was confusing and took several tries to get them to stop calling me! Good thing I don't take much and knew what was going on. Sheesh!
