I almost got scammed today.. I got a call this morning from Lima, Peru. Apparently my Step grandson was arrested there, after a traffic mishap and he needed money for bail, immediately. I was skeptical, so I called my SSon Chris and he looked into it and discovered it was a scam.
I hadn't talked to SGS in years, so I was shocked, especially since he just got married...what would he be doing in Peru with a bunch of friends? I wonder, though, if I had been able bodied, would I have gone to western union and wired the money? I've never been scammed before, usually because I hang up in their ear. Have any of you heard of this scam. Chris thinks they got him and me from Facebook, since that's the only place I am listed as his GM......grrrrrrrrrrr!!! Beware kids, they're out there.

Sally, you handled that well!
Yes I've heard of these types of scams before. They prey on people they hope they can confuse and convince that something is wrong. Best policy to adopt is the one I use: Just don't do business over the phone unless you make the call yourself..period.

I hit the jackpot today. I am helping a Nigerian worker get $40,000,000 out of his country and I am going to get a nice percentage of it just for helping.

That happened in our family. My elderly sister-in-law got a call about a nephew in trouble...I'm afraid she would have fallen for it except she was hard of hearing and called another sister to find out more information. I wish they could catch them and hang them up by their.......toenails.

You did right to check first, Sal...I'd report it to FB just in case...there's been a real uptick in things like this...
I'm sure if you were able bodied you'd have the same sense to check first...

Hi Sally, I bet you they did get your name from face book. I have also heard about this kind of scam. They get you to try to believe someone in your family needs you or is in trouble. It is great that you checked things out by calling your GS for confirmation. There are people out there who try anything to get money from you. You did fantastic. I am sorry they bothered you. It makes me sick to think people try to use you like that. I hope it doesn't happen anymore. ginnie

Not too long ago someone actually tried to go through the church directory and pull a similar scam but they would name another church member and calling "FOR" them to get money for hotel and airfare since they lost their passport.
It didn't work with them either. And Sally, I'm afraid if you were "able bodied" you wouldn't be going to Western Union. You'd be flying to Peru to find and beat the living crap out of the caller.

LOL!! You're right, Craig! That poor scammer wouldn't know what hit him once our Miss Sally got through with him. And I bet he'd never do it again to anyone else.....not that he'd be able to once Sally got ahold of him!!
