Default Stupid light bulbs!

Light bulbs above the mirror in my bathroom are all burned out. And I cant climb the stepladder to change them out. (well, I probably can, but I'm so stiff and sore from spasticity this morning, I'm not risking it)

I have one light bulb in my shower area to light the bathroom with, and it's not a very bright bulb when it's the only thing providing light to the room.

Who wants to bet it blows right after I get into the shower?

I think I'll go assemble a christmas tree while I wait for my parents to get back so my dad can put some bulbs in my bathroom. At least I dont have to climb a ladder to put the tree together. I dont have to be anywhere today so showering can probably wait.

Kind of sucks. I can remember when I could change a bulb without being terrified that I was going to fall off a two-step stepladder.

Edited To Add:

I took my balance board for my Wii and stepped up on that. It gave me just enough height to try to take one of the light bulbs out of the fixture. When I touched the light bulb, it lit up and went back out again. So I turned it a little and it lit up and stayed on. So did another one. I'm guessing when the cleaning ladies dusted the fixture the other day, the bulbs turned just enough to turn them off. The other bulbs were dead. So I just left them for when my dad gets home so he can change those.

Now I can at least see what I'm doing in there. I'm going to go wash my hair now before those bulbs quit working again.

Erin, it worries me that ALL of those bulbs have blown at once, especially if you're concerned that the last one in the room might go at any time.

Have your parents had an electrician in to check the wiring?

Or, have they blown over a year or so and you've not replaced any of them in all that time?

If over a short time, then your wiring might be faulty and your house in danger of catching fire.

They've been going out one by one over the past couple of weeks. But, as I said in my edit of my first post in this thread, two of them were apparently loose and I was able to turn them enough to make them come back on. (yay for the Wii balance board!)

I still cant reach them enough to unscrew them without probably dropping them into the sink, but I was able to turn those two back so they'd turn on again. I wouldnt mind having an electrician go thru things to double check our wiring. I just had some of our plumbing re-done this week because it wasnt up to code. (we trusted the wrong people to install a water softener 2yrs ago. They screwed up our pipes, and they also worked on some of our electrical)

The house was brand new when we bought it 9yrs ago, but when we had one of the basement rooms finished off into a fourth bedroom/office about 6 or 7yrs ago, the contractor didnt pull permits for the electrical and some plumbing work they did. I wasnt interested in construction at the time, so I didnt pay attention to what really was being done then. Wish I could afford to open the drywall up where some of the wiring is to look and see how things were done. (the outlets in that room are upside down. 3 prong plugs have to be plugged in upside down) I just hope they were better at wiring than they were at plumbing.

Erin - go right ahead and laugh at me. I am. When you said you took your Wii balance board...I thought you were going to say to see if you had enough balance to change a light bulb.

No, I cant balance on a ladder, but the Wii balance board gives me some extra height that my fingers can reach the light bulbs. I'm ok with the extra inch or two the board gives me, but if I try to climb up on a ladder, there better be an air bag on the floor next to me. I'm terrified that I'll fall off the ladder.

I used to be the person in the family who would climb up the ladder to get stuff down for my parents. Now I usually have to wait till my boyfriend to come visit, or wait till my sister comes over (my b-in-law is like 6ft 5)

A couple of weeks ago, just before this current (really really) numb flare started, I climbed the stepladder to change a bulb in my bedroom. I was pretty proud of myself. (I was brave because I was right next to my bed. My plan was if I started to fall, was to try to fall on the bed) But, about a week ago, I started getting really numb in the toes and feet, and I'm really not comfortable being any higher than my tip toes now. (which I almost cant do, because my toes hurt really really bad...spasticity?)

I would really like it if my Relapsing Remitting MS was more Remitting than Relapsing. It really is starting to tick me off.

Every six months or so our son changes the bulbs in the three or four lights that are hard for us to get to. Even if they aren't burned out yet. It is SO worth it, God bless him.

I'm going to ask my brother-in-law to change our burned out light bulbs for me the next time he's here. Always a good thing to have tall relatives. Only way to get height into our family was to get my sister to find a tall guy. (my boyfriend is the same height as me. But, he can climb ladders)
