I was spoiled as an adolescent...my mom would spend hours on the phone, so when I was an early teen she got me a phone for my bedroom...with my own phone line!!
Sure came in handy when DH and I began going steady (going out to you youngsters)...I was just finishing up 8th grade and he just finished sophomore year of high school. We spend hours on the phone (when his mom would let him). A lot of it was spent in silence since we fought a lot...

Now I text a lot. If I didn't I'd never be able to communicate with my adult kids, since they don't seem to know how to call on the phone We oldsters need to keep up or we'll never hear from the young ones...

I actually learned in a class place settings and what every fork and spoon is for.

Haven't really used. I took stenography, so yesterday! I can darn socks.

I learned some computer language and how to key-punch cards. Useless today.
They told me on my job, DOS could not be destroyed, Was that a challenge? I killed DOS (remember DOS-Disk Operating System?). On another job I blew up a vacuum. How my boss laughed until he learned I was serious. I was young.

I think now I'm a Dinosaur.

I talk on the phone with my daughter a lot, and when it's time to hang up I say something like, "Well, I hope your class goes okay" or "Enjoy your pizza" or "Hope you get a good night's sleep."

Well, recently I did that and she said, "Can't you just say goodbye?"

Uh. As in...just say "bye" and hang up? Or what?

My friends six your old twins saw a bank of pay phones and asked her what it was. When she explained how they worked one of the kids looked at her sideways and said, "nuh huh, you can't trick me!"

Kicker- I took short hand and key punching in school too, lol. I even remember my short hand speed, 140 wpm . Totally useless now. I also took 'word processing' which was just typing on a computer, .

My kids don't talk on the phone either unless I make them, lol. It's always texting. Sometimes it's faster and easier to make a call but my kids just don't get that.

Growing up we had the big yellow wall phone that would stretch to the bathroom (as long as my dad wasn't home to yell at us about stretching the cord, ).

I think I must be the only person on the face of the earth that doesn't text. I can't see the tiny keyboard plus my hands don't work like they used to.

I remember that old wall phone. Ours was in the kitchen and one of our cats (Freckles) would come running when it rang because she knew that whoever answered it was most likely going to sit down and she could curl up in a lap!

You know you're old when....
I was telling my kids a joke the other day, and the punch line is "What do I look like, a typewriter?" They both gave me this blank stare and said, "What's a typewriter?"

My friend's 4 year old saw Grandma ironing and said "What's that?"

I have one but I might have said the same thing. I suffer from an iron deficiency. BTW my mom doesn't even have a cell phone. She just got a cordless last Christmas as a gift.
