Default Catalogs By Mail

Somehow I have gotten on the mailing lists of a zillion different catalogs ranging from food to clothing to vitamins to cosmetics. I'm tired of getting them all and more tired of thinking about all the trees that were destroyed to make them.

I found a website that allows you to opt out of these catalogs. It's www.catalogchoice.org and it's wonderful. I signed up and entered all the catalog companies that have been sending me mailings. Hopefully I'll be off all these lists within 90 days.

Just wanted to share in case anybody else wants to opt out.

I actually like catalogs. I shop from Women Within (women's clothing catalog) and Knitpicks (yarn/knitting/crocheting catalog) and Mary Maxim (mostly crochet/yarn/other crafts catalog)

It's the catalogs for the "as seen on tv" crap that I dont like. But my mom likes those. We just have to remember to throw the catalogs into the recycling every once in awhile to keep our house from looking like an episode of "Hoarders". (mom doesnt throw anything away...)

If you receive catalogs from stores that you've placed an online order with....or even purchased from within the actual store.....be careful before you throw them out. I've found that some of them have preprinted order forms inside with all of my name, address and phone number info already on them. l shred all that info including the address label on the catalog itself before putting them in the recycling.

I hate when that happens. When ordering, there is usually a place whereyou cant opt out on receiving any mail or e-mail from them. Some send them anyway, the turds..

My e-mail box is full of ads and flyers from these places and I have to opt out all over again..

My dad sometimes tears off the order forms or back page of the catalogs before I can read them...those pages usually have the info the order person on the phone needs to know what catalog I'm ordering from. I dont mind him tearing off the pages, but at least wait till I decide if I want to buy a new sweater or something.

http://www.catalogchoice.org/ can take up to 6 months to stop the catalogs. It is not them though, it is the companies being very, very slow.

I've opted out of a few catalogs but usually I'm glad to get them.

I was finding it hard to get to any stores since about 1978 and have been addicted to mail-order catalogs ever since. Now with the Internet they're a little less important but I still save them.

When I need potting soil, for instance, I bring out my gardening catalogs--about 10 of them, usually--and by now I know which catalogs are likely to have it.

It's not something you can order as an online grocery item.

I order LOTS of stuff online and find that I like it more and more. I've found a place that I order all my paper products from. It's www.alice.com. It's great and you can get the big bulk size paper towels and toilet paper without having to lug them home from the grocery store. Their shipping is always free, too. They sell lots more than just paper products but that's what I use them for. Makes my life so much easier.

Thank you for reminding me about Alice.com. I signed up for it some time ago but never actually used it because groceries aren't available there.

I had been intending to use it for other things--just hadn't got around to it yet!

Alice.com has some non-perishable items in their grocery section. Although I've never ordered any food items from them I might try a few with my next order.
