Default Stamps go up a penny today

Just a reminder--First Class postage for a 1 oz. piece is .45 starting today. So if you drop of mail on your way to work tomorrow, add a penny stamp UNLESS your stamps are "forever" stamps.

IMO our postage stamps are dirt cheap...just ask any European.
Postage for first class was 5 cents when I was a kid. It definitely hasn't kept up with the cost of living...

I had no idea postage was so high!! I haven't bought stamps in so long. I pay all my bills electronically through the Bill Pay feature on my banks website. That's about the only thing I ever need to mail.

Thank you for the reminder, though.

I still view them as one of the few remaining bargains out there.

I agree.... your postage IS cheap!

When I was young we didn't have decimal currency in Australia, and postage cost sixpence. We went digital in 1966 and that sixpence converted to 5 cents.

Now, the lightest possible article here costs 60 cents to post (55 cents at Christmas), and a parcel costs the moon. I sent Christmas gifts to an Internet friend overseas in December. There were 6 items in the package, the heaviest being a T-Shirt, and it cost me $45 to send the parcel by the slowest, cheapest way possible. I have another (bigger) package ready to post to and I'm expecting to have to pay at least $70 for that.

At those prices, there's no way I can afford to send anything by airmail.

I have forever stamps. I don't use them as much as I should. I pay all bills online. My goal for this year was to start snail mailing happy mail. It is always nice to go to the mailbox and get something nice as opposed to bills. I bought the forever stamps when I got my January SSDI check as I knew the price of stamps was increasing.

I believe all First Class Stamps are Forever Stamps now. Haven't used anything else in years., when I do use them.
