Default Happy Anniversary to us

18 years ago today...I think it was a Monday...my husband and I had been "dating" for about six weeks. We were on our way home from dropping off my granddaughter, talking about possible plans for the day, and one of us (neither remembers who) said, "We could always get married."

So we swung by the Town Clerk's office for a license, called Pastor to see if he was free, called his sister, my son and daughter. Told my daughter we were getting married, she said, "When?" I said. "7:00." She said, "WHAT? Don't you want to wait a little longer?" I said, "Okay, 7:30."

The ceremony lasted about 7 minutes. We could have done it in 5, but my granddaughter, who was 4, wanted to be the flower girl. I figured I'd had a wedding once; this time I wanted a marriage. (My husband would have phoned it in, given the choice.) We had 6 guests, plus my son, my daughter and her husband, and my little granddaughter.

We are celebrating by having snacks and watching the news, surrounded by cats. Like we celebrate every night. Life is good.

Happy Anniversary! Sounds like a perfect celebration. Staying home and being comfortable. I hope you two have many more happy anniversaries.

Congratulations. I was just reading that the average wedding costs something like $35,000!!!!!!!! What in the world are they going to have for the marriage if they spend that much on the wedding. I must admit I spent more than you did but still it was one attendant apiece and cake, nuts and punch. It's been 39 years.

Many congrats, Blessings for all your happy years together!

Doydie, I've heard/read that statistic before, but still find it very difficult to believe! How can that even be true? If it is, no wonder more couples don't get married!

DH and I married off 3 of our kids in less than 12 months (6 years ago). We gifted them each $3,500 to spend or use however they wished. Each had a lovely wedding and all are still married. We provided (fixed it ourselves) a nice dinner for each of the weddings b/c the grooms were unable to. My two girls chose beautiful white gowns that cost in the low $100's -- NOT thousands!

IMO, spending $35,000 on a wedding is just ridiculous, unless you live in a castle!
