She ahs been acting weird lately, less social with the two of us, some strange meows almost like crying. Tonight she threw up really bad on the love seat and then ran back to her favorite place in the office. I cleaned up the furniture, took awhile since I had to get the cleaner out and clean then scrub. When I went back to the office she was just laying there dead. She had some blood in and around her mouth. Now as to what to do with her. What do you do when you pet dies? Does the vet take care of it, the Humane society, animal control?

I guess all this will hit me tomorrow.

A vet office should know of local cremation services.
They will cremate and if you wish return the ashes to you , for an extra fee.
If you aren't able to bury the pet in an appropriate place, then call the local dog pound for info.

Almost sounds like some sort of heart failure. When my dog died, he died of kidney and heart failure (probably from being poisoned by a neighbor. He was fine one day, and the next he was suddenly very sick. No idea what kind of poison it was.) and he'd done something similar. Got sick, there was blood in the vomit and it was kind of foamy.

In Omaha, the Humane Society has a place called Rainbow Bridge. You can take your pet there or you can have your veterinarian take your pet there. I dont know if your area would have something like that, but I bet you can contact your local Humane Society to find out.

When my dog TinyMonsters died, he died at the vet's office. So the vet took care of sending him to Rainbow Bridge. All I had to do was tell the tech at the vet's office that I wanted him sent there (think that's what I did...I might have had to call Rainbow Bridge myself...I dont remember now) and tell the tech what I wanted them to do with Tiny.

We had him cremated and Rainbow Bridge put him in a really nice carved wooden box. He's on my headboard of my bed right now. The box is really nice, and it's got his name and birthday and death date on a little engraved plaque that's on it. My plan is that when I die, I've told everyone in my family that I'm not leaving if Tiny's not with me. They're to come get Tiny and put him in with me. I was with him his entire life. I want him with me forever. Hoping that my family listens to me and remembers to grab him. If he's not there, I'm planning on haunting my family members. I wont be a friendly ghost.

I just checked the local Rainbow Bridge website and they've got more options now for what kinds of boxes they put pet cremains in. I almost wish I had the cremains locket. (little vial they put some of the ashes in so you can wear it as a necklace) Almost wonder if I can take Tiny back there, and have them put a little of him in a locket for me. (that doesnt sound creepy does it?) I really liked my dog.

I'm really sorry about your cat. It hurts to raise pets up from a puppy/kitten, see them develop and then suddenly lose them. Only part of pet ownership that I hated was that last day.

I guess I can talk and think a little more now. She has had some meowing like she was crying and had blood in her urine yesterday. Wow, I had never seen her throw up like she did. Right now laying next to me she looks bloated. I finally covered her up.

We had one die at home. She had thyroid issues and just gave it up to heart failure at 18 yrs old. We buried her on our place.

The other cat, just went into distress suddenly and we never knew what happened. I kind of suspect she may have eaten a poisoned rat. She was an outside kitty. The vet put her down for us and we had her cremated.

Was this an older cat? Oreo has an intestinal cancer, and we woke up to a barf today too... but she has always done this since she was a kitten. She has been much better in this regard since her treatments in Oct and Nov.

Cancer is very common in older cats. I suspect that. If she was bloated, she probably had peritonitis from a ruptured intestine.
Also cats get into dental floss discarded in the trash, and Xmas decorations, and plants which might be poisonous. So if she was younger, some misadventure is possible. There is a chronic intestinal inflammation some get from wheat or corn in the food. So that is possible too.. bleeding etc. A blockage in the intestines sounds like what the problem was.

Vets will cremate for a fee. It is usually around $40 or so (you don't get ashes back this way). There are sometimes places which will do individual cremation...when Tippy passed last January suddenly, the ground was frozen and we could not bury her as we did our others. So I had that individual cremation and they sent me the ashes. This was expensive..around $160. So I would just call a vet and ask for disposal figures, and they usually have the information for individual cremation. You take the pet to the vet and someone picks it up there.

We have a hole dug now for Oreo so she can go eventually where our other much loved cats are. We don't know how much longer she can live with her cancer diagnosis. (There are 2 gerbils, a squirrel and raccoon there with them too).

I know this is traumatic. Also alot of guilt, esp since you will now think about how this happened, etc. My sincerest condolences at this time for you.
