One of my best friends is a huge news junkie. She reads the paper daily front to back and is constantly watching news channels like CNN stations like that. I can be on the phone with her and she'll be watching the "news" and proceed to tell me all the bad things going on in this world.
While I think it's great that she can do this, I just can't see watching the news all day long. I think I would end up horribly depressed and anxious about the goings on in this world. And, I don't trust the reporters to report the news in an unbiased way. Since so many of us MSers are home a good portion of the day, how many of you watch the news constantly? |

BTW - I do read the headlines on MSN and if I'm interested in an article I will read it. But, I don't watch the news.

I usually watch the first five minutes of the news because that's when they give the weather forecast. Usually that's the extent of my news watching.
If there's a local story that I'm particularly interested in I'll watch for that update but for the most part I tend to shy away from most of the news. Nothing is ever good......

I haven't decided what to answer. I'm only a junkie when there's a specific story I'm following and want updates. That said, on weekdays we ALWAYS watch the noon news (local, only 10 minutes long--for the weather as much as anything) and we ALWAYS watch the evening local news, then the national news at 7.
I check the Google news headlines in the morning, and only through the day if I'm following something, as I said. We also get a local newspaper. With me it's like having to know what time it is--always. If I don't watch the news, I have that icky feeling that there's something I should know about. *shrug*

I have MSNBC on most of the day and especially in the late afternoon. I like the talk shows on Sunday too, especially Chris Matthews and Meet the Press.
I do occasionally have to take time away, as I get very overwrought about the world and all of the instability...then I watch shows like Devine Design or Property Brothers, or Househunters on HGTV...or Damsel in Distress movies on Lifetime movie network...

I'm a serious news junkie. I leave my tv on Fox News half the time, the other half of the time I probably have either HGTV on, or I'll be watching movies on my computer. (I have Amazon Prime and can watch some movies and tv shows for free, streamed from Amazon)

I used to be a big News, Court TV, CNN, MSNBC and the Senate/House junkie. Now I just watch if something peaks my interest.
Well, Court TV went to JUNK TV, my cable took the Senate off, CNN became too Show Biz and the rest of them....too many druggers, muggers, sluggers and Political Pluggers.. Like some of you, I plug in once a day to get the headlines and weather.

We live in no-man's-land. We do not get cable in our area and we don't want satellite so we do not have TV. I cannot watch the news. It costs too much to get the paper because there is no delivery in our area and we would have to have it mailed. I rarely listen to the radio. I live in a news wasteland. I have no idea what is happening in the world and I have to say I am none the worse off as a result. If there is something important going on, someone tells me. I like it this way.

I like to watch the nightly news. I like to stay informed. Sometimes I'll watch FOX news for a while until I get bored.
I noticed that old people living alone will start watching the 24 hr news channels or the weather channel 24/7. So you don't want to catch yourself doing that! Its like their brains get zero-ed in and they can't change channel or have no social side to them left. They get no interest in funny shows or dramas. I think its a sign of lost focus and maybe even depression.

CNN in my opinion spells constantly negative news. I find that no matter which channel I choose I am surrounded by negative news. There are almost never any news stories about good things, good people, or good events. I would like to hear about teenagers that did something good for their neighborhood, not about the ones that robbed a convenience store.
For now I rarely if ever watch the news. I even told the husband I can't stand any channel on the television that has arguing people and most of the stations today have arguing people. For now I will listen to my audio books on my iPhone.
