Default Thank you for the good thoughts and prayers....

Ok, I got him to the hospital at 8am for his pre-op stuff. He was supposed to have surgery at 10am. They didn't get him in until after 2pm. Then it was after 8pm before they got him to his room after the surgery (a two hour operation). This doctor is supposedly great for joint surgery but this hospital (Central DuPage Hospital) is not on my happy list right now. I sat on hard cushioned seats for twelve hours waiting.

He got through the surgery just fine but he was also miffed at the lack of coordination at the hospital. Could it be because he is on medicare? I'm exhausted but thankful he is ok, but my gosh, why have us there so early and not have the surgery until more than six hours later than scheduled?

There could have been emergency cases tying up the operating room he had scheduled, and had to give way for. He could have been waiting for the right amount of nurses or anesthesia guys to have on hand so your husband had the right amount of help. After waiting for emergencies to clear they MUST scrub that room like the queen is coming, due to how easily bones can get infected.

I am sorry you had to wait so long. Waiting is very hard whether its for ice cream, or a loved one. I am glad your hardest hours are over. Now ...let the healing begin!

How are you both doing this morning?

I had a similar situation...went in for a repeat wrist fracture surgery that was supposed to occur at 11 am. Got into the OR at 3 pm
Seems he had a complicated surgery before mine...took hours and hours.

I was so hungry...I wanted to cancel and go home so I could eat, but DH insisted I go through with it

He's doing good this morning, just had his first physical therapy. I came home last night instead of sleeping there because I was sore and exhausted from sitting all day. He has a beautiful private room though with a nice view. I wish it was closer to home, it's about an hour away. I have to write a long paper for my class today and clean the house so it will be uncluttered and clean when I bring him home.

He had some pain during the night he said but they put him on a stronger pain medicine in his IV. He makes the nurses laugh so they take good care of him.

So glad it's over and he's doing well. Good for him for getting on the nurse's good side early!
