Default Davy Jones RIP

I miss Earl our grim reaper. Davy Jones of the Monkees died (heart attack). He was part of my youth and I'm very sad.

Oh dear.....I hadn't heard this! I had such a crush on him when I was a young teenager. I used to watch the Monkees all the time. Loved that dance they did!

I am so heartbroken.

Stood in line in 1986 for three hours to meet Davy Jones. (he kissed me on the cheek, and I got his autograph! I was 17yrs old when MTV started the Monkees comeback by airing the tv show constantly) He's the only one of the Monkees that I got to meet. He and Mike Nesmith were my favorite Monkees.

When they announced that he'd died this morning, I cried. I didnt cry for Whitney Houston or Michael Jackson, but I did cry for Davy.

I think I'll go listen to my Monkees cd's for the rest of the day. So sad....

He was my favorite Monkee. I had the biggest crush on him. I'll include him and his family in my prayers.

I used to go to my friend Millie's house to watch the Monkees (she had color TV!!) and her dad would make wisecracks from his recliner while we scarfed down popcorn, lying on the carpet, and giggled. Millie passed away a few years ago, but we always reminisced about our Monkee days. I took turns having crushes on Davy, Peter and Mickey (he was "Circus Boy" when I was a kid). "Daydream Believer" was the song Millie and I liked the best. *sigh*

They said tonight on the news that Davy was on the Ed Sullivan show the night the Beatles were also on. Davy was on because he was playing in the show Oliver. By watching the Beatles he got the idea to get a group together himself. I'm not sure if all of this is true or not or they were just trying to romanticize Davy.

I bought Davy's book, Davy Jones "They Made a Monkee Out of Me" back in the late 80s. (I have an autographed copy around here...somewhere) and I seem to remember reading in the book that he was in Sullivan Theatre the same night the Beatles were there.

I believe the story. I also prefer the Monkees over the Beatles. I thought the Monkees were more fun, but then, I didnt discover the Monkees till they had their reunion in the mid-80s. Never cared for the Beatles.
