Default Another lousy birthday

I know it's selfish of me but yet another birthday and nothing. My husband wished me happy birthday and that is it. I have gotten absolutley tons of birthday wishes on facebook from people I don't even know except for egg buddies. some of them are dear relationships. But nothing from my family. I know the day is still young but I also know it won't change at the end of the day. It was really bad for me last year because Mom was laying in the bed in a hospice and she didn't realize it was my birhtday. But I just hate myself for feeling this way

I thank you all for your wishes. I don't mind them but I just came here to vent, not asking for birthday wishes

even with all the bad things that happen to others and in the world it's still ok to feel for a loss in our lives.

here's a for you.

I understand the venting. I dont think you're being selfish about it at all. You miss your mom and you want her here for your birthday. That's not selfish, I think that's a pretty normal feeling.

I miss my grandmother. She died a day or two before my birthday. I wish she hadnt died so close to my birthday because now I feel sad on my birthday every year. (she died on her daughter's birthday, so my aunt probably feels worse than I do every year)

I think our culture has put such emotional symbolism on birthdays--happy happy happy--we've set ourselves up so that it is indeed a loss when our special day passes by with little acknowledgment from those we love. It's like, "You're going to be ALONE at CHRISTMAS??"

I've had many a birthday when I've had to remind myself that "nobody cares if it's my birthday" is not the same as "nobody cares about me".

its our ONE special day that is just for YOU! not wrapping things for others, not fetching and ferrying food for others, not worrying if you got the right thing, in the right color for someone else. its that time of year when those who wrap their arms around you should make YOU feel special. No matter what else is going on in the world.

Im glad you got a new kitty, and I am sorry your DH didnt go further this year. Im sure memories of losing your mom didnt help this day.

You are loved. HAppy Birthday!

My 'DH' just suggested that a good way to make me feel better would be for me to go out and spend $100 on myself. That is his way, "I don't buy gifts, don't want gifts , don't give gifts". Money buys happiness in his world. That's why he always wants to take our girls and families on vacations. Make up for the unhappiness I gave you when you were growing up.
