Default Summer vacation east vs west

Summer vacation is coming up. My husband thinks we need one every year. I have really wanted to go to the Maine coast line for a vacation. Then I saw some pictures of the Washington state coastline and they are as beautiful. I need experiences, suggestions, pictures, whatever.

Since I live on the east coast and have for some time I guess I have seen it all here. I have eaten more Maine lobster than I care to admit, and my fair share of surfing, sand dune, and clam bakes. Very New England things. Since I am from here, I guess I would appreciate going to places that are not in my face every day.

Would love to see the other side of this great country.

How handicap friendly is the Maine area though. I want to see the cliffs, lighthouses. I hate lobster!

OK, Maine it is. Now I need suggestions where the bet place to stay. I want to see cliffs! I would love to sit on a balcony and smell the ocean and hear the waves up against the cliffs. I don't need a place where I can just walk to the beach. I'm sure we will get there. I want scenic shops, lighthouses, a whale watching boat tour.

Whale watching seems like it would be fun. I have a friend who went whale watching. She said it was fantastic. Maine should be beautiful in the summer time. The seafood should be glorious and really fresh.
