I had DISH for 12 years and they would call and upgrade us to what looked like a very good deal only to turn out to be a HUGE price increase. They are sneaky and charge you for EVERYTHING including paying your bill over the phone. I got rid of them on our last move and went to DIRECT TV. There service has been superior over DISH. I have not had any trouble with reception and I live wayyyy out in the boonies.
However; the satellite game can be played. When your contract is up, you can switch to the other satellite company and get their latest deal. When their contract is up, you can switch back to the other for THEIR latest deal. I don't have cable in my area so satellite is the only option. If you can get FIOS (I think Verizon) through the phone company in your area, check it out. Its cheaper and has a really high customer service satisfaction rating.

I've had DirecTV for probably 10 years or more. I've had great customer service from them. I have had occasional interruptions with really bad snow or thunderstorms, but not to the point of real disruption. However, the rate creep has me getting itchy to switch at least for awhile.
I really wish they would bring FiOS out here, but I don't think that will ever happen. So, my only options are Comcast or Dish. I would lose good channels with either switch, but would get their enticement rate for the next year. I waffle back and forth about what to do. Every time I think I'm ready to switch, I get overwhelmed with the thought of everything involved. Isn't it a shame that these companies don't reward loyal customers? It feels as if they are only interested in getting new customers rather than keeping the ones they already have. Why should we have to play the switching game to get better introductory rates if we want to keep our bills low?

I agree you should be rewarded for being a long time customer, but that simply does not seem the case.
The other thing to remember about signing up for Direct TV: find another direct TV customer, get their account number and you will both receive $100 in free service. Just say the other person referred you. Quite the bargain!!! PM me if you want/need mine!

FIOS is hugely expensive! They also have to dig up your yard to bury the cables, and the pic quality isnt as sharp as comcast. I have a friend who has it and he was always bragging. Went to visit and it wasnt any better than comcast, but almost 2x the price! Did an internet speed test and comcast beat them! I stopped wanting FIOS after that. I have EVERY movie channel, and phone, and high speed internet and my bill is still half what his was for FIOS TV and internet. no phone in his bundle.
I didnt mind direct tv, and thought their customer service to be quite nice compared to DISH, but I am not sure I would want to go back. Since we live on top of a mountain, we constantly have cloud cover and are hit with some bad storms. One day it was just a simple rain and the TV went out. Grrr...made me crazy! So, im happy to have my plain jane cable. Glad the old set is working. nothing beats using what you know.

I was looking forward to my new TV! But my husband is a sucker for helping our girls. My daughters TV, which was our old TV, is really bad. So we will take our old TV down to her. So it looks like I will get my new TV and we will probably go with Direct

i have direct tv.
1 thing i hate is that if we have even a bad rain the satellite connection cuts out. so, we could have a tornado or hurricane and just when i need to hear news on the storms i wouldn't get reception. errrr! the other thing i don't like is for some reason i can't order movies from my remote. i have to go to my computer and pull them up from that which i never remember to do. otherwise i'm happy. i upgraded once so i could get NGW and some other channels but of course you pay for that.

We've had both Dish & Direct TV. Rain did stop transmission...and we have had our share of problems with Direct TV. We have it at the family cabin up in the Northwoods of Wi. We turn it on in May & suspend service in the fall. We had no problems with this until last year. Then they stated they were going to charge us for this.
So I think this year we are hooking it up to the Internet & getting our feed that way. No problems with weather & no scamming us with extra charges. Oh and we had Dish at home for a time. Same problems with weather. We canceled and went with AT&T Uverse. When DH called to cancel our service with Dish, they told him to go up & get the dish down & mail it to them. Uh, no...not up to the 2nd story! He told them if they wanted it they can send someon to climb up there & get it. It's still on the roof

We have had DirecTV for 16 years.
We have been very happy with DirecTV and have no complaints. We have had only a few problems weather related in all of these years.

Well we did it! It will be installed Friday. I can't believe I will be getting DIY. I'm afraid HGTV will get a little jelous of my time.

I love DIY and watch it as much or more than HGTV. I think that is one of the channels I would lose if is switch from DirecTV.
