Wow! How each state can differ in its laws! Amazing. My district paid the 3% for me into the state fund. And matched the 6.25% SS. Upon retireing, I am collecting both. My state check will be more than SS once I hit 65.

If DH were to die before me, as a widow I would get his amount (SS) because it is greater than mine. But I would not get mine too. Just his.
