[Twinkletoes]

Drove the big, red, hairy, drooly creature to the vet to see why he was losing hair on his rib cage area and gaining weight. There are big bald patches larger than the size of my hand.

New vet said we could do an expensive test -- OR -- we could give him thyroid pills and see if he's doing better in a couple of months. A 4 yo otherwise healthy dog with a THYROID problem? Who knew? *shrug*

The girl at the front desk wanted to know how to spell his name. Really? Hmmm, I hadn't thought of getting ridiculously creative, so I replied somewhat slowly (I was still working it out in my mind):

Pen in hand, she hesitated and looked up at me over the top of her readers. There were deep question marks forming in her eyebrows and forehead, so I quickly repented.

D-U-K-E. That's it. Just Duke. He came with that name when we adopted him from the shelter a couple of years ago.

I imagine it took her a lot of self-control to keep from slapping me.
